A 46-year-old mechanic was attacked with bullets this Monday afternoon in a workshop in the western area of Rosario and died after being hospitalized.
According to judicial sources,
the victim was a protected witness
in a case in which they accused Esteban Alvarado, identified as one of the main drug traffickers in the province of Santa Fe.
The firearms attack against
Carlos Argüelles
is the second in just over seven months.
The first time he had been unharmed after being ambushed near his home.
On this occasion, they shot
him while he was working
in Garay at 3500. From there he was transferred to the Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital (Heca) with very serious injuries.
The Public Prosecutor's Office (MPA) reported that the man shot dead minutes before 19:00. In the area where the shooting took place, an operation was mounted to protect the crime scene, where the investigators found a
pool of blood and pods served
as projectiles as a trace of aggression.
Argüelles was with his family when the attackers arrived at the scene aboard a red Volkswagen Fox.
The car was later found in the southeast of the city, about 50 blocks away.

The preliminary version of the crime indicates that the mechanic was with
his partner and their two children, ages 3 and 18
.
The victim had permanent police custody at his home, but the same measure had not been taken in the workshop.
They had previously offered to transfer him out of town, but he had rejected that proposal.
Alvarado's former collaborator provided key testimony in the provincial case for which the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPA) requested a
life sentence for the alleged drug trafficker
.
The latter was charged as the head of an illicit association and the intellectual author of the crime of the moneylender Lucio Maldonado, among other crimes.
The first attempt on Argüelles' life occurred on Thursday, January 28, in Garay at 5500,
about 20 blocks from where he was killed
this Monday.
On that occasion he was aboard a Ford Ecosport with his family when three criminals aboard a car and a motorcycle intercepted him.
Although several shots were fired, no injuries were reported.
Almost a month ago, the provincial justice accused Alejandro Núñez as the intellectual author of the attempted murder.
According to the evidence presented by the Prosecutor's Office, "Chucky Monedita" commissioned the unsuccessful attack against the mechanic from the Piñero jail.
