The chamber choir of the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus inaugurated the “Syria Choirs 2021” forum in its second edition, organized by the General Authority of Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts, with the participation of choirs and choirs from Damascus and the governorates.

On the first day, in addition to the chamber choir, led by Maestro Misak Baghboudrian, two choirs participated in the echo “Yabroud” led by Basil Haddad and “Ajwan” “Tartous” led by Bishr Issa, and it was embraced by the Drama Theater.

The chamber choral program, which consists of students and graduates of the institute with different specializations, including opera singers and instrumentalists, was characterized as the nucleus of the first professional choral troupe in Syria, founded in 2001, with its diversity and heavy weight.

The program included a selection of world-famous choral songs that are difficult to perform, and which are usually performed only by major international professional bands, from the song The Phantom of the Opera by the American composer Ed Lewisky, who passed away last year with its majestic melody, to dazzle the chamber choir with its performance of songs from the most famous films of music, namely Mary Poppins and Voice Lively, flowing music.

The chamber choir, which has given many concerts inside and outside Syria, has in its repertoire a large stock of choral compositions of various genres, styles, styles, schools and musical eras, starting with Western classical music, modern contemporary music, Eastern Arab and international music for peoples.

The second part of the evening was presented by the Sada Yabroud Choir, which was established in 2013 with about 30 children between the ages of 4 and 15 years, and in 2018 it worked to expand to include age groups of young people and adults and presented an oriental program that began with Muwashah Ya Ghazal composed by Bahjat Hassan and Milly by composer Charbel Rouhana and from Heritage Lala and Lala performed in addition to a percussion show for the Duchess and the Rh Minor Medley.

One of the goals of the choir, which had many local participations in festivals and cultural activities, is to adopt the music slogan for all, starting with children, who are the main target group by introducing music with education, believing in its importance for intellectual human upbringing.

The last part of the evening was presented by the choir Arjwan Tartous, which was established in 2015 and its program came as a heritage with distinction, eastern and western, where the members of the choir performed Muwashah when he began to yell, “Lower your love” and the tarab song. Greek and Ukrainian.

The Arjwan choir, with its three choirs, is one of the largest choirs on the Syrian coast, with 230 members divided into three choirs according to the age group.

The Syrian Choirs Forum includes, in addition to the choral evenings, workshops and accompanying lectures with the aim of supporting the experiences of the choirs on the one hand, and singing the Dar al-Assad program on the other hand, with the aim of introducing the Syrian public to the choirs of the governorates.
