A 6-year-old girl died Sunday night at a game at an amusement park in Colorado, authorities said.
Shortly before 8 p.m., the Garfield County Coroner's Office had to go to the
Haunted Mine Drop
game at
Glenwood Caverns amusement park in Glenwood Springs, following
a report that a girl had been fatally injured
, he said. Coroner Robert M. Glassmire in a statement.
Park workers tried to give the girl first aid until paramedics from the Glenwood Springs Fire Department arrived, who pronounced her dead at the scene.
The little girl, who was from Colorado Springs (a city near Denver), was on vacation with her family.
Her identity has not been released and it is unclear how she was injured.

Haunted Mine Drop
was launched in 2017 as the world's first underground falling attraction, according to a post from the park on Twitter.
Glenwood Caverns Amusement Park did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The park posted a statement on Facebook saying that an incident at the Haunted Mine Drop game had resulted in a death and that the facility would be closed on Monday and Tuesday.
"Out of respect and concern for all parties involved,
we will not comment further until all details have been confirmed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected," he said.

Glassmire said the sheriff's office and the coroner's office are investigating.
The autopsy is scheduled for this week.
"The Coroner's Office extends its condolences to the victim's friends and family," Glassmire said.
