Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said last night (Monday) that he deeply appreciates the US effort in Afghanistan, especially with regard to the country's extraordinary evacuation operation - he noted in a phone call to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
His remarks come after he last week criticized the way the American withdrawal from Afghanistan was made.
Lapid and Linken also discussed the Gaza Strip.
In the conversation, Lapid emphasized the central place that the Gaza Strip occupies in Israel's system of considerations, and described Israeli policy that the way to secure Israeli residents and economic well-being in Gaza is through the prevention of gunfire and the strengthening of Hamas and economic measures in the Gaza Strip.
"Blinkan welcomed the recent steps taken by Israel in facilitating the Gaza Strip," the Foreign Minister's office said in a statement.
On the issue of Iran, Lapid expressed concern about the progress of the Iranian nuclear project, referring in particular to the continuing damage to the oversight of Iranian nuclear activities and his expectation that the international community will address this with all the tools at its disposal.
In addition, Blinken wished Torch a happy new year and the two scheduled to meet in October in the United States.

Last week, Yair Lapid noted that "the American withdrawal from Afghanistan was the right step that was taken incorrectly."
He made the remarks at a news conference with foreign media, more than a day after the United States' withdrawal from Kabul was completed.
On that occasion he added that he does not believe the United States has withdrawn from the Middle East but is only updating the way it operates in the region.
He said the issue came up in talks Prime Minister Naftali Bennett had with US President Joe Biden at the White House a week earlier.
