Union politicians are currently outbidding each other in their warnings of slipping to the left. The Left itself is trying to get itself further in position for red-red-green with a new climate protection program.

Almost two weeks before the election, the left has positioned itself for possible government participation with a new climate protection program. With the 15-point program that SPIEGEL has received, the party wants to make it clear that only "with a left in the next federal government" will still have a chance to meet the Paris climate targets, according to party executive Maximilian Becker. You have the "most extensive climate program of all parties and bring the demand of the climate movement for climate neutrality by 2035 in the Bundestag."

In the plan, the party points out, among other things, "that climate protection and social justice are inseparable".

"It is clear to us that it is not the commuting nurse with the old diesel engine or the educator in the unrenovated apartment in an old building that is allowed to bear the costs of climate protection, but above all corporations and the wealthy."

Climate Impact Fund and free local public transport

Point one of the paper is climate neutrality by 2035. Furthermore, the Linke would like to set up a climate impact fund to "provide financial aid quickly and without bureaucratic hurdles" in the event of extreme weather events such as the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

In addition, the Left wants local public transport to be free across the board within five years and to enforce a "mobility guarantee for rural areas."

According to the plan, rail travel must be cheaper and agriculture more ecological.

The end of coal energy is to be enforced by 2030, and the landlords will pay the CO2 price in future.

In addition, there should no longer be any laws and regulations that are incompatible with the Paris climate targets.

»With its 15-point plan, the left is firmly on the side of the climate movement.

The SPD and the Greens now have to decide: Do they want to help the black and yellow climate killer parties to power or a socio-ecological alliance for our future? ”Johannes König, member of the party executive, is quoted as saying.
