Even before the hot autumn: daycare centers in corona stress

After a quiet summer, there is again a virus emergency in three daycare centers in the Ebersberg district.

Meanwhile, there is a debate about mandatory testing for staff.

District

- What applies to the little ones does not apply to the little ones so far.

In schools, children and teachers have to test themselves regularly for the corona virus, unless they have been vaccinated against it.

At daycare centers, this 3G rule does not even apply to staff.

Meanwhile, there is a virus emergency again after a quiet summer in three facilities in the Ebersberg district.

Because a child in the Glockenturm daycare center in Kirchseeon has tested positive for Corona, according to the health department, 25 children have to be quarantined.

And three from the staff who are not vaccinated.

There is emergency care for ten children.

Only one child can currently claim this in the day care center of the Poing Family Center - due to a corona case among the children, 21 other and two unvaccinated employees are in quarantine.

In the "Wichtel Akademie" in Vaterstetten, 20 others are in quarantine because of two infected children - only there, according to the district authority, continues to operate normally for the remaining children.

According to a spokeswoman for the carrier, three carers who would otherwise have counted as contact persons were vaccinated.

Affected people can "free themselves" after five days

After all: According to a regulation loosened on Tuesday, according to the state government, those affected can "free themselves" after five days instead of spending two weeks in quarantine.

A broadcast to daycare providers in the district of Ebersberg shows: Symptomatic children have to be tested, but preventive testing and vaccination depends on the staff's goodwill. As is well known, there is no compulsory vaccination against the coronavirus - and unlike in schools at daycare centers, there is no compulsory test. "I have absolutely no control over that," says Elisabeth Seibl-Kinzlmaier about the implementation of a 3G regulation. She is the managing director of the BRK district association Ebersberg, which runs around a dozen kindergartens in the district of Ebersberg. They can only appeal to their employees to get vaccinated or to have themselves tested. Most of the employees have been vaccinated, and the BRK boss also observes a "high level of willingness and conscientiousness" during testing.

Gabriela Kemether, managing director of “Kinderland Plus”, a daycare provider from Poing with more than 15 facilities, mentions a vaccination rate of more than 70 percent.

She knows that because the immunization was carried out by the mobile teams of the vaccination center in the facilities.

An official query of the vaccination status has not yet been allowed to employers - but the federal government is planning a corresponding regulation that would also include daycare centers.

“Everything else is voluntary,” says Kemether about regular testing.

Rauscher (SPD): Applicable regulation illogical and negligent

"That is not only illogical, but also negligent," says the Ebersberg SPD MP Doris Rauscher. “It's also possible in schools.” Small children would not be vaccinated. "And especially where there is little vaccination, testing is all the more urgent," argues Rauscher. The SPD therefore called for mandatory tests for staff in day nurseries and daycare centers. "It is important that the support has right of way," says Rauscher. But then it is important to "increase security to the maximum", she says to the address of the state government.

BRK boss Seibl-Kinzlmaier and “Kinderland Plus” manager Kemether would support a test obligation based on the 3G regulation for unvaccinated kindergarten staff, as would Tanja Berghammer, head of the currently affected “bell tower”.

She points out that all of her staff regularly voluntarily test themselves anyway.

All three reject compulsory vaccination in unison - just like SPD politician Rauscher, who counts on “reason and voluntariness” when vaccinating.

Josef Ametsbichler, deputy editor-in-chief of development cooperation, comments on what is happening in the daycare centers:

Quarantine cases in the day care center are a vivid example of how, in the corona crisis, the well-being of many is being held hostage less because of egoism.

Because few (some of the staff) do not get vaccinated, many (children and parents) have to deal with emergency care and daycare closings.

Of course, the vaccination decision rests with the individual.

Those who are now in quarantine without vaccination should ask themselves whether they have not chosen the wrong profession.

Because their attitude of refusal affects those who have already had to put aside the most in the pandemic: the children.

A test obligation for the daycare staff is the minimum in order to guarantee at least basic health protection for those entrusted to them and their relatives.

But the only thing that helps against constant staff absences is vaccination - or having survived the virus. Until one of the two enters, children and parents have to endure the constant uncertainty as to whether their daycare center will open again tomorrow. It could be a long winter.
