Kempten - It is currently unclear how the fight against the corona pandemic will continue. This is due both to the upcoming general election and the fact that other countries are using different approaches to try to get the pandemic under control. In order to bring light into the darkness, the health and care policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group and Kempten city councilor Dr. Dominik Spitzer hosted an online event.

Spitzer had his party colleague Prof. Dr.

Andrew Ullmann from Würzburg invited.

Andrew Ullmann is an infectiologist and member of the health committee in the German Bundestag.

No compulsory vaccination

At the beginning Spitzer reported on the failed attempt of the FDP parliamentary group to demand a "Freedom Day" for October 3rd in the Bavarian state parliament. "Freedom Day" is to set a date on which as many restrictions as possible to combat the corona pandemic will be dropped. Britain has already celebrated that day, Denmark appears to be doing so next. According to Spitzer, the FDP's motion was not supported by any other parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament.

Nevertheless, the FDP is optimistic about the restoration of civil liberties. “We will only be able to say exactly how the restrictions will continue when there is a new government after the general election. If we are on board, we will bring our demands in terms of civil liberties massively, ”said Ullmann. In a dialogue with Spitzer, the infectiologist speaks out against compulsory vaccination. What is currently happening, however, is the attempt to introduce mandatory vaccination through the back door. "A 3G rule for all areas of life and the right for employers to query the vaccination status of employees shows the direction in which those responsible want to go," said the FDP man.

He does not think that calling for a Freedom Day too early would be expedient. The infectiologist currently wants to persuade people to vaccinate through arguments. According to Ullmann, this is always better than exerting financial pressure. Ullmann currently considers the introduction of fee-based tests to be counterproductive. However, this should be considered at a later point in time, when the threat of a large-scale pandemic has passed.

With the 3G rule, Ullmann asks who is “checking the inspectors”.

It is true that restaurateurs, hairdressers and others are asked to check their customers, but it is difficult to control whether this requirement has been implemented one hundred percent.

In Italy, according to one participant in the discussion, the 3G regulation has already led to a 20 percent loss of revenue in the catering industry.

The Würzburger had good experiences with the Luca app in his hometown in Lower Franconia, but not in the state capital of Munich.

The implementation there is time-consuming and bureaucratic, which is also due to the fact that the health authorities are still understaffed.

Schools have to stay open

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's experiment in setting a Freedom Day at such an early stage is what Ullmann believes is bold and would not have dared to do so himself. Now all the experts observed how the incidence and occupancy of hospital beds were developing in the UK.

Ullmann is concerned that people who have been vaccinated can still be carriers of the virus and infect those who have not been vaccinated. Both Spitzer and Ullmann recommend that unvaccinated people in hospitals or elderly care should not have access to patients. "People with immunodeficiency should not have any contact with unvaccinated staff," said the two doctors.

The top priority is currently ensuring classroom teaching.

From the point of view of the two health experts, the school lockdown was the biggest mistake in the fight against corona.

The participants in the public consultation hour had the opportunity to ask questions.

Among other things, they wanted to know more about the topics of the Luca app, restriction of fundamental rights and freedoms, mutations in mRNA vaccines, the right to be asked about the vaccination status and when a drug is available for the treatment of Covid-19.

Ullmann expects the latter to take two to three years and was also able to answer another tricky question: A vaccination against Corona has a demonstrably positive and not negative effect on manhood.
