An opening in Corona times: after years of discussion and construction work, the new indoor pool goes into operation.

At the weekend there are public tours with registration, you can swim from Tuesday.

Geretsried - The technology works, the water flows, the pennant chains are hanging: The Geretsried indoor swimming pool is ready to open.

Mayor Michael Müller has invited guests of honor to an official ceremony on Friday.

The city offers free guided tours on weekends.

And on Tuesday, September 14th, public swimming will start.

Four pools, two diving boards and 582 square meters of water await visitors.

The pool is geared towards schools and sports, but there are bubble loungers and an elephant slide for small children.

The pool replaces the over 40-year-old and dilapidated indoor pool on Jahnstrasse, which, as reported, has already been closed.

The new building on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße cost more than originally assumed.

Most recently, the engineering company named a total of around 18.7 million euros.

In October 2017, the cost forecast was 15.3 million euros.

Corona: Swimming not possible on the opening weekend

The Free State is funding the swimming pool with 4.2 million euros. The city of Wolfratshausen, the communities of Dietramszell, Egling, Eurasburg, Icking, Königsdorf, Münsing and the district are also involved in the intermunicipal project. Together with District Administrator Josef Niedermaier and the mayors from the northern district, town hall chief Müller will officially open the pool next Friday.

Nobody can jump into the water on this day.

"The risk that everyone would stand close together at a swimming / jumping highlight at the edge of the pool and want to watch was simply too high," explains Ute Raach, manager of the town hall.

The design of the program has been problematic due to the corona regulations, which have been constantly changing recently.

But there is another reason why there will be no swimming competition (see below).

In the past few years, District Administrator Josef Niedermaier had repeatedly challenged Third Mayor Gerhard Meinl.

Registration for the public tour

Swimming will not be possible on the weekend either.

Anyone who wants can, however, take a long look at the new building.

The indoor pool team invites you to an open day on Saturday and Sunday, September 11th and 12th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration is required under the telephone number 0 81 71/2 46 95 04. The "3G rule" applies.

Each tour lasts around 40 minutes and also covers the technical area of the bathroom.

The city announces that there will be a little present for every visitor.

In addition to the new indoor pool, the city has built a parking deck with 180 parking spaces on three levels.

This will also be freely accessible to everyone from Saturday, September 11th.

For the first time, it will still be possible to use it free of charge.

Public swimming starts on Tuesday.

The city council recently set the entrance fees.

Provisional opening times apply initially: Monday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Wednesday, 1pm to 4pm;

Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Friday, 2pm to 10pm;

Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

These will certainly be adjusted again after the initial experience, says Raach.

"At the end of the day, all the needs of schools, associations and the general public should be served." The city is looking forward to the feedback from all users of the bathroom.

Top, which bet is valid?

“When the bath is up, I'll swim 1000 meters with you. And I'll be there before you ”: This is what District Administrator Josef Niedermaier said at a special meeting of the Geretsried City Council in April 2013 to Vice-Mayor Gerhard Meinl. At the groundbreaking ceremony, the laying of the foundation stone and the topping-out ceremony on the construction site on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße, Niedermaier reaffirmed its offer with a view to the opening. And even now that the time has come, the bet is still valid for the district administrator. "I am available and would also give me a head start," the triathlete said when our newspaper asked. At the ceremony with invited guests on Friday, however, that will not work - Meinl cannot take part. “I have an appointment with the Teutonic Order,” explains the Third Mayor on the phone. The mayors of the participating municipalities and the district administrator are important on this day. He just hoped that he would get a bath duck after the opening. “They were in the town hall when I was last there, but I wasn't allowed to take one,” says Meinl. Will the swimming competition ever work out? “It could be,” replies Meinl. But he was never concerned with the “Sparifankerl”, i.e. the swimming competition, but with the background to this challenge, namely the contractual requirements for the inter-communal indoor swimming pool and thus the financial well-being of the city of Geretsried. The agreement with the district and municipalities that the schools use the bathroom was something completely new and those involved found it difficult to do so. The fact that the project has now come to an end is "remarkable".  that he would get a bath duck after the opening. “They were in the town hall when I was last there, but I wasn't allowed to take one,” says Meinl.
