Dorfen

- For more than 40 years, the tariff integration of the Markt Schwaben – Dorfen rail line into the MVV was an important concern for the Erding district.

Now thousands of commuters can look forward to: As the Bavarian Ministry of Transport and the district announced on Monday, MVV tickets will also be valid on the rail to Dorfen in the future.

Passengers will benefit from the tariffs from December 2024.

One network, one ticket, one timetable: in transport associations, passengers benefit from uniform information and uniform tariffs for buses and trains.

That is why the railway line between Markt Schwaben and Dorfen is being integrated into the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV).

Railway line Markt Schwaben-Dorfen: from the end of 2024 in the MVV

The Free State contributes significantly to the costs.

"We want the entire public transport system in all districts and independent cities in Bavaria to be part of high-performance transport associations," explains Bavaria's Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer in a press release.

“This makes it easier to use public transport and has many advantages for passengers.

We ensure that passengers benefit from the attractive MVV tariffs on the entire route from Munich to Dorfen. "

The district of Erding has been part of the MVV for more than 40 years.

The only exception so far is the railway line between the Markt Schwaben and Dorfen Bahnhof stops.

That will soon change: The section of the Munich – Mühldorf railway line, which is not only important for commuters, will be integrated into the MVV tariff area.

As a result, the MVV tickets are already valid from and to Dorfen Bahnhof in the future.

The introduction is planned for December 2024, because the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) is re-tendering regional train services in the Mühldorf line star, which also includes the Munich – Mühldorf railway line, for the period from December 2024 to December 2032.

The district contributes 80,000 euros annually to the costs

The Free State bears a large part of the costs for the introduction of the network tariff with almost 910,000 euros annually. The district contributes around 80,000 euros annually. “We are making the Südostbayernbahn and the district of Erding even more attractive,” says District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer, who calls tariff integration a “milestone in the district's history”.

Soon, train travelers from Dorfen will be able to travel to Munich and back more easily, as both passenger information and ticket purchases will be made easier thanks to a uniform tariff system.

“The years of commitment have paid off for this,” says Bayerstorfer.

He has fought for the MVV tariff integration since the beginning of his tenure 19 years ago.

It was always a matter of great concern to him that the district citizens, who daily need this connecting route from Dorfen Bahnhof with the Thann-Matzbach, Walpertskirchen and Hörlkofen stops to Markt Schwaben as a commuter or in their free time, can use the advantages of the MVV.

MVV executive adviser: "Public transport offer is becoming more attractive"

With the network integration, “a previously existing gap in the MVV tariff area will be closed, and the public transport offer in the eastern district of Erding will once again become significantly more attractive,” says MVV managing director Bernd Rosenbusch, and explains: “We are pleased that the state and the district enable this step together.

From December 2024, commuters from Dorfen and the surrounding area will also benefit from the network concept on the rail route in the direction of Munich: One network.

A timetable.

One ticket."

The great advantage of transport associations is that tickets are generally valid for all public transport.

In addition, timetables are coordinated and reflected in coordinated passenger information, which makes it easier to access public transport.

The Free State of Bavaria therefore supports Bavarian municipalities that currently do not yet belong to a transport and tariff association made up of buses and trains on their way into such an association.

Among other things, a basic study is currently taking place on the possible expansion of the MVV by ten districts and urban districts.
