Russia announced today that it will not participate in the upcoming ministerial meeting on Afghanistan.
And Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement: “Russia will not participate in the ministerial meeting on Afghanistan scheduled to be held on the eighth of this month.”
In the same context, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia has not yet taken any decision on recognizing the Taliban, and said: "We are still trying to link the Taliban's promises and statements to their actions."
Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced Moscow's readiness to participate in the inauguration ceremony of a new government in Afghanistan, provided that it represents all components of Afghan society.
