Nuremberg plans to become greener in the future.

This is not only intended to improve the appearance, but above all to benefit climate protection.

Nuremberg - The city of Nuremberg * wants to declare war on "gardens of horror" (gravel gardens, gardens covered in concrete, etc.) and become greener.

This should not only benefit the optics, but primarily the protection of the climate and species.

“Gardens of Horror are an example of how not to do it.

Citizens invest a lot of money in supposedly low-maintenance outdoor facilities that do more harm than good to the urban climate, ”said Thorsten Brehm, chairman of the SPD city council group, according to

Nordbayern.de

.

Nuremberg: Climate-friendly areas should curb global warming

Due to global warming, more areas are needed that can absorb the heat and take up water in summer, the politician continued.

He therefore appealed to private individuals as well as traders to use this environmentally friendly option.

However, there is potential not only in the redesign of the front gardens and backyards.

According to Brehm, photovoltaic systems should be installed on roofs and greenery should be planted.

Facades also represent an additional option for greening. The city administration already makes sure that the design is climate-friendly when it comes to urban development contracts.

Nuremberg: New construction projects should take account of the green area

The building land resolution of the city council stipulates that in future a green share of at least 30 percent must be taken into account for new buildings.

Should a municipal statute also take up this condition, Brehm sees a good chance that this will be enforced in the future.

At the same time, he emphasized that the regulations only apply to new construction projects.

Anyone who already owns a house is therefore not obliged to redesign something.

Nuremberg: Funding programs for a greener Nuremberg

According to Otto Heimbucher, environmental policy spokesman for the CSU city council group, funding programs could help to make Nuremberg greener.

“We have to motivate and educate people,” he emphasized.

Some funds for the residential building stock are already available, such as from the "Green Initiative".

Private individuals who would like to make their property greener can receive up to 15,000 euros here.

Nuremberg: Investors should be made responsible

Andrea Bielmeier, spokeswoman for urban development and housing policy for the Greens in the city council, says that this is not enough.

In their opinion, investors in particular must be made responsible for designing open spaces in a climate-friendly manner.

Builders would have to be prepared for higher costs, but the damage caused by disasters such as heavy rain is much more expensive.
