The U.S. Department of Justice announced last night (Monday) that the federal government will work to protect any woman who wants to have an abortion in the state of Texas. This, after a stricter law on abortion took effect in Texas last week. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement that the Department of Justice "will protect those seeking to obtain or provide health services in the field of abortion."

A Justice Department statement said they would not tolerate violence against anyone seeking abortion services in the state, and that federal officials are exploring all options for appealing the law in Texas. According to Garland, the Department of Justice will enforce federal law "in order to protect the constitutional rights of women and other people, including the right to abortion."

Justice Department officials have been in contact with prosecutors, including U.S. attorneys in Texas and FBI agents in the state, to discuss with them the enforcement of federal orders.

"The ministry will provide support from federal agencies when an abortion clinic or health center is under attack," Garland said.

"We will not tolerate violence against anyone seeking to obtain or provide health services in the field of abortion, physical obstruction or property damage in violation of the law."

The most stringent in the US: Texas bans abortions after 6 weeks

The most extreme abortion law in the United States went into effect on September 1, after the U.S. Supreme Court did not grant an emergency request from organizations for the right to abortion to block the law.

The abortion ban in Texas is almost absolute, and it allows any private citizen to sue a body that provided abortions, or any person considered to have assisted women in performing abortions illegally.

However, the law does not allow a private citizen to sue the patient herself.

The non-intervention of the Supreme Court will allow the continuation of the petition of those organizations against the constitutionality of the law.

The law excludes cases where the mother suffers from medical problems, and she requires to present a written certificate from a doctor, but not rape and incest cases.

Will enforce federal law "in order to protect the constitutional rights of women."

Organizations working for the right to abortion say that 85% -90% of abortions in Texas are done after six weeks, so it is likely that the law will lead to the closure of many clinics.

According to the organizations, the law in Texas is the strictest in any state in the United States since the Supreme Court upheld in 1973 the legality of abortions across the state, in Roe's historic ruling against Wade.

Texas is one of 12 Republican states that have passed laws banning abortions from the moment fetal heartbeats can be detected.

This often happens six weeks after the start of the pregnancy, sometimes even before the woman realizes she is pregnant.

However, the courts have halted such laws.
