An extraordinary agreement was first signed between the Israeli Manufacturers Association and its Mexican counterpart.

The agreement was signed last Thursday in the presence of the presidents of the two organizations - President of the Israeli Association, Dr. Ron Tomer, and President of the Mexican Association, Francisco Alberto Cervantes Diaz, and Ambassadors of the two countries - Israeli Ambassador to Mexico Zvi Tal, and Mexican Ambassador to Israel Mauricio Escanro.

$ 400 million trade

The peak of trade between Israel and Mexico was in 2014, and stood at more than $ 600 million, but today the volume of trade has dropped to $ 400 million.

The hope of both sides is that the agreement between the two countries' organizations will in the future yield commercial cooperation that will enable growth in Israel's trade with Central America.

From the Israeli side, the focus will be mainly on encouraging Israeli exports in areas where Israel excels and is known throughout the world, as the one at the forefront of technology - cyber, homeland security, agricultural and water technologies, and more.

In addition, emphasis will be placed on the exchange of information between countries on foreign trade, customs system, exchange rates, legislative changes and more.

The exchange of information will take place through regular meetings, mutual delegations and B2B events.

At the same time, the two sides will work together to promote research and development cooperation, alongside economic research that will identify opportunities for cooperation between countries.

"Fertile collaborations"

The president of the Manufacturers' Association, Dr. Ron Tomer, said: "I hope that with joint efforts we will turn the memorandum of understanding signed between us into a starting point for a series of fruitful collaborations between Mexico and Israel, by way of innovation and prosperity.

As is well known, in the last two years the world economies have been severely affected by the Corona virus crisis, and the recovery we are now anticipating in both countries is still very vulnerable.

"Therefore, it is more important than ever for us to strengthen our ties with global business partners such as the Mexican Manufacturers' Association, and through this also to support each other and increase business cooperation between our two communities."
