A mysterious symbol has been discovered in a blue-chip middle-class housing estate on Hong Kong Island

There is a mysterious symbol outside the unit, suspected to be a thief’s "line stepping" behavior, which has been heard in public housing estates in recent years.

In Nan Fung New Village, an old blue-chip housing estate in Quarry Bay on Hong Kong Island, a number of neighbours recently discovered that an inconspicuous mysterious symbol appeared at the doorbell at the door of the unit. Residents were worried that they would be targeted by thieves and become the target burglary unit. They called the police for help.

Former Eastern District Councillor Wei Zhihao posted a post on Facebook today (8th) stating that an unknown symbol was engraved on the doorbell location at the door of many households in Guifeng New Village after receiving news from some regional communication groups recently.

It is suspected to be the usual practice of the culprit to "step on the line" of the target unit in advance in a burglary case.

The neighbours have called the police for help for the record.

As shown in the picture, most of the symbols are a tick, which is suspected to be drawn with ink. Most of them are hidden in the lower right corner of the doorbell, which is very inconspicuous. If you don't look carefully, you may not be able to notice it.

Wei Zhihao pointed out that he didn't know if the perpetrator was a prank or had another purpose.

He reminded the neighbours to be vigilant when entering and exiting, and watch out for strangers entering and exiting, and whether there are suspicious signs outside the unit.

The building management company posted a notice this evening to remind residents to pay more attention.

The Wanbao Property Management Company, which is in charge of the housing estates, posted a notice this evening to strengthen the building’s security measures and strengthen patrols. The Chai Wan Police Station and the Eastern Crime Prevention Unit have been notified of the incident for help.

The police said that at about 1 o'clock this afternoon (8th), they received a report from the public that suspicious marks were found outside the doors of many households in Block 8 of Nanfeng New Village. They were worried that the marks would be used for illegal purposes.

The police sent personnel to the scene to understand and investigate the incident.

The case is now classified as miscellaneous.

An old private housing estate in Nan Fung New Village, 44 years old, with a total of 12 blocks.

The Chief Executive Carrie Lam and artist Alan Tam were also residents of the estate.
