Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the government’s epidemic prevention guidelines have forbidden schools to conduct wind instrument training, and school wind orchestras and marching bands have no countermeasures and can only conduct online training.

It is difficult to practice musical instruments at home facing the camera, even more difficult to practice marching, and ensemble training is almost impossible.

Even if physical classes resume in April, the marching band can only carry out simulated training with masks and musical instruments.

Fortunately, the teachers and students are full of enthusiasm for the band, and they can still focus on and work harder despite all kinds of impossibility.

In the first two days, the wisdom and hard work of teachers and students finally yielded happy results.

Po Leung Kuk Yuchuan Primary School won the highest honor-the Gold Award in the Hong Kong Band Competition organized by the Hong Kong Joint School Music Association.

Although the school has won this award in the past, the significance of this award is very great.

Wielding an umbrella for visual marching exercises

Due to the school's need to cooperate with the epidemic prevention guidelines, the school's wind music training was once paralyzed.

In order to continue the learning experience of students and implement the concept of "no class suspension", the school has been continuing the training of wind music in the form of video classrooms.

However, it is not easy to maintain exercises other than instrument training: limited mobile space, different types of electronic devices, and different network speeds ‥‥ greatly limit the training of video orchestras, let alone marching orchestras. What about video training?

In the past, whether the orchestra students were holding instruments or holding musical flags, they also practiced in the auditorium or playground together. How can you imagine that there is only a small space in front of the camera?

The teachers and tutors worked hard, insisted on continuing the agreement with the students every week, and practiced unyieldingly under the camera.

Footwork, posture, coordination ‥‥Most of the training content is carried out in an orderly manner in front of the camera under the repeated thinking of the instructors.

The Leqi team members do not practice Leqi at home?

Just use clothes rails or umbrellas instead; the wind players fail to play in ensemble to match the action?

Let's "imagine the ensemble" with the demo recording!

All obstacles that are visible or unknown during the practice can be solved by the instructor and students together.

The training process also requires the full cooperation of parents. Just imagine how difficult it is for a marching flag bearer to hold bamboo poles, umbrellas and other things in Hong Kong's golden home!

With the wisdom and hard work of teachers and students, the "Three-in-One Performance" won the highest honor

A few months ago, the school learned that all group competitions in the "Joint School Music Contest 2021" sponsored by the Joint School Music Association can only be entered by video submission, including marching orchestras that have never performed physical exercises during the epidemic.

Even if there is a video class, the classmates each hold things to practice in front of the camera, and how to cooperate with each other with what kind of stepping pattern they would not have imagined.

The teachers and tutors eliminated all difficulties and designed a fantastic show for the band after the restoration of the physical class: Divide the band into three groups, and record and record the performances of Leqi students, wind students and percussion students, and finally combine the videos into A segment of the game.

With this "different performance", the orchestra won the highest honor of the competition-the gold medal for the school.

This award not only includes the wisdom of the mentor and the hard work of the students, but also highlights the "Yuchuan people"'s attitude to try and strive for progress in adversity, break through the comfort zone and strive for success in the epidemic.
