Its popularity in Argentina and the Río de la Plata in general is indisputable, but now it is known that it transcends borders, since
the choripán
has just been highlighted in an international ranking: it occupies the fifth position among
the five best sandwiches in the world.
The list was compiled by the Taste Atlas site
, a "world gastronomic atlas" that classifies regional foods from around the planet and where users rate their favorite dishes.
In this case,
the choripán obtained a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars.
A must for roasts, the well-known "chori" in its sandwich version was considered by the editors of Taste Atlas as a
"street food" or Argentine street food
, consisting of a "sausage-type chorizo" seasoned by a "variety of condiments" on a "crusty bread".
They also indicate that it is consumed "on the go" and that it is generally sold in "street stalls".
Choripan is often served with chimichurri and other garnishes.
The best sandwich in the world, according to the Taste Atlas ranking published on its website, is "Montreal Smoked Meat" from Canada, followed by "Bocadillo Serranito" from Spain, "Vada Pav" from India and "Toast Skagen "from Sweden.

It is not the first time that the choripán has made headlines due to its international fame.
In 2020, the streaming platform Netflix
organized a survey through its social networks to determine which was the best street food
in Latin America and choripán came in third place, after Peruvian ceviche and Mexican tlayuda.
The Taste Atlas or "Atlas of Taste" was created by a Croatian entrepreneur, has a database of 10,000 recipes and aspires to become a benchmark for tourist gastronomy around the world.
