Berlin - The number of corona infections in Germany * is currently increasing.

However, the vaccination campaign is stalling.

Many people do not want to be vaccinated or are still undecided.

In a press conference on Wednesday (September 8th, 2021), Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn * and RKI boss Lothar Wieler informed about the status of the Corona * vaccination campaign.

"Take the chance, get vaccinated," appealed Health Minister Jens Spahn.

He underlined that vaccination rates now need to be increased - to protect yourself and others.

"Every single vaccination decides how safely we get through the autumn," said Spahn.

"What we are currently seeing is a pandemic for the unvaccinated."

Corona in Germany: Action week on vaccination from next Monday (13.09.2021)

According to Spahn, there was enough information about the corona vaccination.

But from his point of view there was no opportunity to get vaccinated.

The RND reports.

The vaccination week from next Monday (13.09.2021) by the federal, state and local governments should change this.

Easily noticeable offers should be made in as many places as possible - for example in sports clubs, at the voluntary fire brigade, in pharmacies or multigenerational houses - with the motto: "This is where vaccination takes place".

All vaccination offers should be available on the website www.hierwirdgeimpft.de.

Corona in Germany: RKi boss Wieler warns of the difficult course of the fourth wave

Meanwhile, RKI boss Lothar Wieler warned that the fourth wave could take a "brilliant course" if the vaccination rates do not increase. Those affected in the intensive care units are getting younger and younger - and, according to Wieler, this is mainly due to the fact that some people do not get vaccinated. Anyone who does not get vaccinated now will be infected for the foreseeable future, and will accept a severe course and long-term consequences.

In addition, the RKI boss spoke about vaccinations to protect children.

Corona vaccines * are under development, but so far it has not been possible to vaccinate children under twelve.

“It is therefore our duty to get vaccinated and to maintain the precautionary measures in daycare centers and schools.

In this way we can reduce the impact of the virus on this age group, ”said Wieler.

The Minister of Health also agreed: "Children have had to do without a lot in the past few months and those who don't like vaccinations should think twice about that," said Spahn.

Corona in Germany: Vaccination rate is still significantly too low

So far, 61.5 percent of the population in Germany have been fully vaccinated, 65.9 percent have at least one vaccination.

In order to level off the fourth wave of the pandemic, a vaccination rate of 80 to 90 percent is considered necessary.
