A 31-year-old Spanish mountaineer who had just reached the summit of Mont Blanc by the normal route died Tuesday (September 7) after accidentally unscrewing, mountain rescue services said on Wednesday.

The fall occurred on Tuesday shortly before 10:15 am on the Bosses ridge, a sector located in the last part of the ascent at an altitude of 4,500 meters, while the thirty-something was moving down with a group of three other climbers. According to the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM), in charge of the investigation, the victim fell over nearly 800 meters on the Italian side. The group was not roped.
