For mistakes paid.
According to reports in Algeria, the International Olympic Committee this evening (Tuesday) suspended for ten years the Algerian judoka Fathi Nurin, who refused to face the Israeli Tohar Botbul during the competitions at the Tokyo Olympics.
Norin, who decided to retire from the competition last July, will in fact not be able to compete in any international framework until the end of 2031, after the World Judo Association made it clear tonight that any boycott of fights for political reasons would not exactly be welcomed.
As you may recall, Nurin decided to retire from the Olympic competition in order to avoid a meeting with Botbol, although he was not drawn against him at all but wanted to avoid a confrontation with the Israeli in the second round in Tokyo. He then explained his position, saying: "My position on the Palestinian issue is simply decisive. I will not recognize the Israeli flag and I will not get my hands dirty with it."
