Next to the door of the

Municipal

Cemetery

of Lanús, located in Remedios de Escalada, several empty coffins appeared, thrown away.

The fact was known by a video that a neighbor uploaded to social networks and was investigated by personnel from the

10th Police Station of Lanús

(Villa Barceló) and the Security area of the Municipality.

But it is not yet known how the coffins got there.

The cemetery has suffered from vandalism for several months.

The caregivers report that, for at least four months, the

robberies and destruction have been constant and devastating

.

There was even an event

involving

a pregnant woman

who tried to steal bronze plates and was

arrested by the police when she already had 10 plates in her possession.

Regarding hypotheses, they do not rule out anything, from the fact that they are simple thieves to the possibility that in some case they are intentional destruction "against the intendancy."

"All our lives we have recorded robberies, but lately the situation has worsened with notably worse cases," says one of the six members of the

Lanús cemetery

caretakers' commission

, located on Coronel Aguilar street at 3302.

During the last weeks, and despite having several security cameras, the place suffered the loss of valuables located in the niches and, according to the staff, thieves are rarely arrested.

"

They come every other day

, and they generate destruction because they are looking for bronze," they remarked.

The robberies began about four months ago, caretakers say.

A month ago there was the case of the pregnant woman, who had entered the premises in the afternoon and was discovered with at least

ten bronze plates

in her purse.

The 39-year-old woman was apprehended for robbery and taken to police station No. 10.

"People are scared, families are afraid from not finding a badge, until something happens to their relative. Many people do not want to come for fear of being robbed at the moment," says one of the caregivers, and assures that usually the starters take place around five in the afternoon, after closing time.

Given the repeated cases of insecurity in the Lanús cemetery, the staff emphasized the need to integrate

police control on the premises

during the day.

"If we are not there, there is no one, we arrive and we do not know what we are going to find. We have to remove the jets and nobody notices anything," they add.

According to the team of caregivers, thefts not only occur in broad daylight but also generate noises that are difficult to ignore.

"They make disasters, they throw plates and they break the bronzes, but nobody hears anything," the workers denounce.

The bronze plaques, stolen by a 39-year-old pregnant woman.

The problem was raised to the management of the cemetery, but the staff assures that no measure has yet been taken to prevent theft and destruction at the site.

"The director tried to put more vigilance, but there is still no news," they lament.

"It is impressive how the bronze is being stolen, and that hurts us a lot," remarked the caretakers, whose income depends on the voluntary contribution of the families: "We do not charge a salary, we have a minimum quota of the people to keep niches clean. "

According to the workers, some acts of vandalism could be carried out "against the city government."

Weeks ago, the mayor of Lanús, Néstor Grindetti, witnessed the inauguration of the completely renovated cemetery baths.

"Two days later they destroyed them and stole everything,

we do not know if they are doing it on purpose,

" they highlight.

Beyond the loss of bronze objects, the damage continues to worry the staff and families who usually attend the property.

"It gives us anger, because they break everything that cannot be stolen," denounces the commission of caretakers.
