If the video killed the radio star, TikTok may be replacing YouTube as the latest launching pad for youth fame.

Social media consumers in the UK and US already spend more time on TikTok than on YouTube, a new report suggests, and the entertainment industry appears to be paying attention.

Take, for example, Addison Rae, a TikTok dancer who stars in the popular Netflix hit "He's All That" or the newly released "D'Amelio Show," on Hulu, based on "The First TikTok Family."

Across all genres of entertainment, TikTok influencers are finding new success.

App monitoring company App Annie collected data from social media and found that the average time per user spent on apps is higher for TikTok and said the app is "revolutionizing the streaming and social landscape."

Addison Rae, here in August, gained a following on TikTok and is currently starring in the Netflix movie "He's All That."

While TikTok is viewed more than YouTube on average, YouTube is still the leader in total time spent (not per user) and has more users overall.

(The report only takes into account Android phones.)

In the UK, TikTok surpassed YouTube in June 2020. In the US, TikTok and YouTube tied last year before TikTok rose to the top in April 2021, according to the report.

TikTok is also ranked as the world's most downloaded app since 2020. Live streaming apps are also seeing an increase in money spent on creators.

In other words, in Hollywood, TikTok is a lot like money.
