Weyarn

- The community of Weyarn is heading towards its 14th working group: It will probably be called the mobility workshop - and although it has not yet been officially founded, the future members are already active. They will meet tomorrow, Thursday at 7 p.m., for a tour of Weyarn to take a look at the streets, sidewalks and cycle paths. The aim is to find out where one can change something for the better with little effort at first, reports Elisabeth Meyer, spokeswoman for the working group (AK) Energy & Environment.

Two meetings of this working group with the AK Ortsgestaltung & Verkehr in the past few weeks were, so to speak, the "hour of birth" of the new AK. A kind of priority list was drawn up with regard to traffic, explains Meyer. “We approached the topic in a completely neutral way. Everyone has thought about it. What do I like in Weyarn, what do I dislike? What could be better? ”From the point of view of a car driver, cyclist or pedestrian. The participants in these meetings also conducted a self-questionnaire to determine when they walk, when they use the bike or the car and to what extent the length of the route is decisive, or the route itself.

The new AK will focus on the design of traffic routes and how they can be improved for pedestrians and cyclists.

"We noticed that many construction projects did not also consider cyclists a priori," says Meyer.

In some places there is a lack of “little things”, such as insufficiently lowered curbs that cyclists can only overcome when they dismount.

Such obstacles naturally also pose a problem for seniors with walkers or wheelchair users.

Accessibility should also be an issue at the AK.

Meyer is pleased that some citizens who have recently moved to Weyarn were present at the first meeting and want to get involved.

If you are interested in taking part in a tour or a meeting, please contact Katja Klee from the community's participation office, 08020 / 1887-24.
