For face-to-face teaching, the schools accept the obligation to wear a mask.

However, the managers do not agree on every Corona issue.

Freising

- With a mask, but in the classroom and not in front of the home computer, school lessons begin on Tuesday.

Heads of secondary schools welcome the relevant regulations for classroom teaching.

Opinions differ on topics such as vaccination campaigns and, above all, air filters.

Karin Schmidt, Rector of the Georg Hummel Middle School in Moosburg, is happy to be able to start with her students on Tuesday in attendance.

"We have all experienced the psychosocial disadvantages children and young people can suffer from long absence from school."

"Positive signal not to automatically quarantine entire classes"

Given the circumstances, the school principals can also make friends with the return of the mask requirement during lessons.

Bernd Friedrich, director of the Freising Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule, describes it as “a sensible arrangement that is unpleasant, but must be implemented in the interests of everyone's health”.

Gerd Preuß, director of the business school in Freising, welcomes a “quarantine with a sense of proportion”, which the Bavarian state government speaks of.

“It is a positive signal not to automatically quarantine entire classes, but rather individual students in the immediate vicinity.” In addition, the quarantine can end after five days if the PCR test is negative.

How long a quarantine would make sense, the medical experts would have to decide, emphasizes Schmidt.

"It is clear that the shorter the absence from school, the better it is for our young people."

"Cannot assess whether vaccination in adolescents is risk-free"

Prime Minister Markus Söder suggested it, the Freising Education Authority is already coordinating it: vaccination campaigns in schools for 12 to 16 year olds.

BRK district manager Albert Söhl has already signaled to the FT that he is willing to send vaccination teams to schools, provided that at least 15 to 20 young people come together.

“Of course we support this measure because it is the most effective,” emphasizes Friedrich.

Schmidt also wants to start a query with the parents, but also emphasizes: "Of course, I cannot assess whether vaccination for adolescents is risk-free or at all useful." Scientists and doctors would also have to evaluate that.

"No studies that show an infection reduction through such devices"

Preuss would prefer to organize campaigns at mobile vaccination centers than at schools.

"Since the parents have to be present when the minors are vaccinated, greater organizational effort is required." But he also says: "Everything must be supported that increases the vaccination rate in the population."

The Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule does not have any mobile air filter devices.

According to his information, according to headmaster Friedrich, classic ventilation is more effective.

According to the Society for Hygiene, Environmental Medicine and Preventive Medicine, these devices would not help if the person sitting next to them was contagious.

"As far as I know, there are no studies that have shown a reduction in infections using such devices."

"Decision in favor of air filter would have made more sense"

The Georg-Hummel-Mittelschule is already equipped with a “very modern ventilation system”, as Rector Schmidt reports. “Luckily!” Nevertheless, some rooms that are poorly ventilated have been equipped with mobile filter devices or CO2 traffic lights. And Schmidt is in an exchange with the city of Moosburg on how the air quality can be further optimized. With additional purchases, however, you also have to keep an eye on ongoing financial costs - customer services and filter replacement, for example.

The business school bought CO2 measuring devices in all rooms, but no air filter systems - a decision that Preuss is now struggling with.

“If the pandemic had been over after three months, expensive filter systems would have stood useless in the corner.

Now, with the appearance of mutants and the understanding that the pandemic will last longer, a decision in favor of air filter systems would have made more sense.

Especially in the cold season, when window ventilation is not always possible. "
