Are you already recycling the car?

BMW presents a car that was built entirely from recycled materials, will this be what the cars will look like in 2040

Like most of the manufacturers at the Munich show, BMW's exhibits put environmental protection first.

But instead of settling for another alternative propulsion system, BMW has chosen to look to the end of the next decade.

If the internal combustion engine stops its life in 2030, BMW is trying to figure out how the car will be produced and feel in 2040.

BMW I Vision Circular is a small city car made entirely from recycled materials and such, which is entirely recyclable.

Despite an overall length of a little less than four meters, this show car is supposed to offer a fairly spacious cabin thanks to the structure of one box and the placement of wheels (almost) at the edges of the chassis.

But these design principles, are not what is new here. Manufacturing a vehicle that is entirely recyclable requires changing production processes, finding different connection methods for chassis parts, using smart catches and more. According to BMW the use of such, allow disassembly and relatively easy recycling of this car. As for the materials themselves - the whole body is made of recycled aluminum, other parts are made of recycled plastic, even the tires are made of natural rubber according to BMW.

In the cabin, it is also possible to find upholstery and fabrics that come from recycled materials - an element that is already incorporated in cars today.

The large glass roof, which is supposed to contribute to the airy feeling in the cabin, is also a fairly common item today.

Compared to these there are quite innovative ideas.

One such is the "dashboard".

Instead of the familiar specs, BMW places in the center of the console a component created in a 3D printer, one that looks like a huge crystal.

According to BMW this is the place that shows the condition of the vehicle and its function to the passengers and does not add further details.

Those who still want more conventional information, will be able to see in it the top view that will be projected on the windshield.

Alongside this vehicle, which paints a very interesting picture of the future, is a statement that is more important for the near term.

BMW says that the knowledge they have gained in building this concept will help them increase the number of recyclable components in each of their vehicles - in the near future.

As of today, this is 30 percent recyclable in every new vehicle of the company.

The target set by BMW for the coming years is 50 percent.
