Technology giant Sony has released a statement on PlayStation's official blog that it has acquired developer Firesprite - which helped develop The Playroom and its virtual reality version of the PlayStation 4 and PSVR console.

This is actually the 14th developer to join PlayStation Studios - the exclusive key division that develops exclusive games for Sony consoles.

The English studio located in Liverpool was founded by former employees of Psygnosis Limited (also known as SCE Studio Liverpool), which has worked on quite a few PlayStation games over the generations - the most prominent of which are the Wipeout and Formula 1 racing series for PlayStation 1, 2 and 3 consoles.

To date Firesprite has released games for Sony, but was not considered an exclusive developer of Sony.

Sony has not made an official statement on which game the new developer will work on in the family, and although the developer helped develop The Playroom in a version for the PSVR platform - the company did not guarantee that the game they will work on will be a virtual reality game, but did not rule anything out.

Herman Holst

, chief executive of Playstation Studios said in an interview with

Gameindustrybiz

magazine

: "Although they have gained experience with games like Playroom or Peristence, it's too early to talk about the specific platforms or gaming experience we want to create with Firesprite, but we certainly see the value in virtual reality. ".

This is not the first developer Sony has acquired this year: during June it acquired Housemarque, which developed the Returnal game for the PlayStation 5 console, and the Dutch Nixxes.

During last year, Sony also acquired Insomniac, which developed the Spider-Man game and the mythical Ratchet & Clanck series for it, and Guerilla Games, which developed Horizon Zero Dawn and will also release the sequel Forbidden West this coming February.

Most of Sony's exclusive PlayStation console games over the years are known for the high level and polish they offer players, and some of these games are considered to be the ones for which people purchase the PlayStation consoles - games like the Uncharted series, Spider-Man, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, and many more. .
