From the uprising in the Shata prison that scarred young Israel to the escape and rape campaign of Bnei Sela • The great escapes from the prisons that shook the country

The escape of Zakaria Zabeidi and the five members of the Islamic Jihad from Gilboa Prison on the eve of the holiday is probably one of the most difficult escapes from an Israeli prison in the country's history, certainly of terrorists with blood on their hands.

However, this is not the first time that famous and dangerous prisoners have managed to escape from the prison in Israel and put the entire Israeli security system on its feet.

We decided to return to the most famous escapes from the Israeli prison that occurred in the past and which to this day constitute milestones in Israel's national memory.

Herzl Avitan's Escape Journey

Herzl Avitan was one of the most dangerous prisoners and criminals in the history of the country.

In any case Avitan escaped from armed guards in 1981 while visiting his parents' house, Avitan enlisted the help of Shemaiah Engel and fled the bathroom window.

Avitan fled to France where he was captured with the help of the French police.

Later in 1988, Herzl Avitan managed to escape from prison in one of the most dramatic escapes known to the state.

He took control of a prisoner and medic with the help of a gun that was smuggled into prison and ordered an ambulance through which he escaped from prison.

After arriving at his sister's home in Hod Hasharon, he was apprehended by members of the Central Police Unit disguised as construction workers.

The escape of Zvi Gur

The kidnapping case of Oron Jordan shocked an entire country and it eventually turned out that the person who murdered him was Zvi Gur who was caught after a lengthy investigation.

In 1985, Gur escaped from prison.

Inmate Zvi Gur,

Since he had a talent for painting the guards they let him paint the prison walls from the outside when he was virtually unsupervised as the guards trusted him.

On one of these occasions, Gur took advantage of the freedom he was given and simply escaped from prison.

He was captured a few days later when he got on a bus in Rishon Lezion.

The escape of the Bnei Sela rapist

Bnei Sela is one of the scariest criminals in the country's history.

This is a serial rapist who was convicted of sexual offenses, including sexual assault, rape and committing acts of sodomy, which imposed its blow on women in the country.

He began his actions in 1987 and was caught only in 1999. Over the years, when he was already banned, Bnei Sela managed to escape from the police parking lot in the Tel Aviv court parking lot on Friday, November 24, 2006.

A huge manhunt was launched that ended on Friday, December 8, 2006, so after two weeks he was captured near Moshav Regba.

Escape from Shata Prison - 1958

The recent escape of security prisoners from prison is not the first time that a dangerous escape of terrorists has taken place.

The previous and most famous escape is the escape from Shata Prison on the night of July 31, 1958 the prisoners rebelled in prison and began fleeing from it after taking over the prison wings they fired locks and released their comrades.

In fact, this is what is considered the largest prisoner uprising in Israel and the trauma in the history of the IPS. Two guardsmen and 11 prisoners were killed during the incident. Another 66 prisoners fled the prison to Jordan.

The attempted escape from Gilboa Prison in 2014

The current escape at Gilboa Prison is not the first attempt to escape from prison, but one of the most previous and sophisticated attempts that failed took place in 2014 when information came about digging a tunnel in a prison and examining the prison cells found in the toilet of 8 Islamic Jihad prisoners a tunnel that was dug.
