Gmund - A residential project is currently being planned in Gmund, especially for senior citizens.

Details were discussed at the workshop on “Living in Old Age”.

The community of Gmund is planning a residential project for senior citizens, for which two plots are possible: on the one hand, the area north of Hirschbergstrasse, on the other hand, the area on Wiesseer Strasse, next to the Kaltenbrunn car park.

In order to create a conceptual basis, a workshop was recently held with the local senior work experts in order to jointly develop the framework conditions for the housing project.

“The wishes of the older generation are diverse and also subject to change.

The generation of baby boomers has different ideas about living than today's 80-year-olds, ”said Anja Preuss from the Coordination Office for Living in Old Age, which is accompanying the project.

That is why the question of the target group that is to be reached always arises for a senior living project.

Housing for locals

In Gmund, this was developed in the workshop, citizens are to be addressed who are interested in good neighborly coexistence and who are also willing to contribute to a certain extent in the community in a senior citizens' residential complex.

It is also important that the living space is explicitly available to locals.

Nursing or supervisory offers such as day care or assisted living should not be implemented by the residential complex.

Local offers are available to future residents.

Common room for residents

Two scenarios are possible for the planned residential project: A senior citizens' house community, i.e. a residential complex in which accessible, affordable apartments are available for older citizens and in which there is the possibility of community activities.

Or: A cross-generational housing project in which barrier-free apartments are made available for different generations.

Here too, neighborly togetherness is in the foreground.

Assistance from old to young and vice versa could become a reality, such as bringing shopping and, in return, taking care of children.

Regardless of the scenario, a common room is to be created for residents, which may even be made accessible to all residents of Gmund in order to create synergy effects with the village community.

Citizen participation at the end of September

It makes sense that such activities require coordination.

How this should take place can be developed within the framework of a so-called district concept that takes the entire community into account and networks both new offers to be created and existing supply structures.

This could be done in the context of a social office, i.e. by a carer, usually a socio-educational specialist, who has an office in the residential complex and serves as an advice center for all older citizens in Gmund.

"Due to the synergy effects already described, this should be seen as a future-oriented way to meet the challenges of demographic change and to create great added value for the lives of all citizens," said Mayor Alfons Besel. Which of the two options is most suitable will be discussed on September 27 at 6 p.m. as part of a public participation in the Neureuthersaal. All interested people from Gmund are invited.
