It should be “a bit like the crinoline ride”: the tavern-Wiesn of the inns and beer gardens in Munich.

It starts again on September 18th.

Munich * - Even in the first year without the Oktoberfest, it was a success: the Wirtshaus-Wiesn. Perhaps because the replacement event is a bit cozier and more Munich-based than the original on the Theresienwiese - almost like the legendary crinoline, the traditional carousel at the Oktoberfest ... On September 18, the second edition is kicked off. And there is already good news: the Wirtshaus-Wiesn in Munich's inns and beer gardens will be held every year in the future.

"If it happens once, it's not yet a tradition, but if it happens twice, then it should happen again next year!" Said Wiesn host Christian Schottenhamel on Thursday at the press conference in the Augustiner am Platzl.

This news immediately causes euphoria among those responsible.

“Wirtshaus-Wiesn * forever”, calls Gregor Lemke, spokesman for the Munich city center innkeepers.

To celebrate the day, Peter Inselkammer, spokesman for the Munich Oktoberfest hosts, even shakes the dance floor.

Wirtshaus-Wiesn every year from now on: competition to the normal Oktoberfest?

But don't worry: when the Oktoberfest takes place again, the Wirtshaus-Wiesn will not be competition, but an expansion in the city center.

“The two events run independently of each other,” says Schottenhamel.

This year the people of Munich have to do without the folk festival.

"It hurts in my heart that the Oktoberfest cannot take place again," says Schottenhamel.

"I've been a landlord for 34 years and I never would have thought that the Oktoberfest would not take place twice because of Corona *." Nevertheless, Munich's fifth season should not be canceled this year either.

Like last year, the "Wirtshaus-Wiesn" will take place in 51 restaurants in the city center.

"A bit like the crinoline ride" - the Wirtshaus-Wiesn 2021 in Munich

The innkeepers have thought about a lot: decorations, gingerbread hearts, folk music and a specially designed beer mug with a logo.

Even traditional costume performers and dance groups perform.

The 3G rule and hygiene measures ensure safety.

In the beer gardens, however, there is no longer a need for a mask, according to the landlords.

"I think the Wirtshaus-Wiesn is a bit like the crinoline ride," says Lemke.

“It's a bit up and down, but it's rather calm and cozy.” So the right thing for young and old: “It might not be as wild as the Oktoberfest,” he says.

But that is not a bad thing, because the Oktoberfest's attitude to life is in Munich's DNA.

"Then mia a bit sway together"

Gregor Lemke, spokesman for the Munich city center inns, is looking forward to the Wirsthaus-Wiesn

That's why Lemke isn't worried about a good mood. The traditional costume also creates a real Oktoberfest feeling. “We were surprised when so many guests came in lederhosen and dirndls last year,” says Schottenhamel. So the motto is again this year: Aufbrezeln! The best picture under # aufrezelt2021 even wins a traditional costume voucher. "16 days of costume, I'm looking forward to it," says the landlord. He and his colleagues can hardly wait until it starts on September 18th. "Then I sway a little together," says Inselkammer.
