Palestinian institutions called on the international community and its institutions, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross, to take immediate action to provide protection for Palestinian prisoners and to stop the crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against them.
According to Wafa Agency, institutions concerned with prisoners launched an urgent appeal to the United Nations agencies and diplomatic missions in the State of Palestine, demanding protection for Palestinian prisoners from collective punishment and retaliatory measures practiced against them by the Israeli occupation authorities.
In their appeal, the institutions addressed the repressive measures committed by the occupation authorities against the Palestinian prisoners, after six of them broke their chains three days ago and took their freedom through a tunnel dug with their own hands in Gilboa prison near the city of Bisan in the occupied Palestinian territories in 1948, which is one of the most fortified and guarded prisons.
In their appeal, the institutions warned against the continuation and escalation of these measures, as they constitute collective punishment against the Palestinian prisoners and violate international conventions and covenants, calling on the international community and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Convention to abide by their obligations to protect human rights and apply international humanitarian law.
The institutions that launched the appeal are (Al-Dameer Foundation, the Palestinian Prisoner Club, and the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission), in addition to the NGO Network, the Council of Human Rights Organizations, and the Family Revival Association.
