Pele, one of the great figures in the history of world football, said Thursday that he is
"recovering well"
from the surgery he underwent last Saturday in which
a "suspicious" tumor
was removed
in the colon
.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, 80, has been
hospitalized for nine days
at the Albert Einstein Hospital in the capital of São Paulo after undergoing surgery to remove the tumor and is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The tumor was identified during
routine examinations
carried out last week and which, according to Pelé himself, had been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which kept him semi-confined in his home on the outskirts of Sao Paulo.

, who on Wednesday lost one of his children to cancer.
"I am recovering well, but today I want to send all my affection, love and prayers to my great friend Roberto Carlos. I want God to comfort his heart and that he is surrounded by love and light," said the former footballer on his social networks.
