Impossible to set foot in Auvers-sur-Oise without mentioning Van Gogh or to go to Pontoise without having a thought for Pissarro.

And yet, these star artists are far from being the only ones to have marked the history of painting by representing the landscapes of the Oise Valley.

Impressionism month is being organized for the first time this year for all these forgotten figures.

Until September 30, many activities - exhibitions, shows, workshops - are offered free to the public in L'Isle-Adam, Pontoise and Auvers-sur-Oise.

Since 2019, the three cities have in fact decided to unite to promote their common heritage.

This month of September, placed under the sign of painting, was directly born from this desire.

A large open-air exhibition, divided into three parts, is thus presented simultaneously in the three municipalities.

Luis Jimenez y Aranda, the Tavet museum.

Then attract locals to local museums

“In Auvers, Pontoise and L'Isle-Adam, there were three artistic centers built around the figures of Daubigny, Pissarro and Jules Dupré in the 19th century,” recalls Agnès Saulnier, director of the Daubigny museum in Auvers-sur- Oise. “All these painters who revolved around personalities were very important for the history of art. And yet they are little known. "

Édouard Béliard, Ludovic Piette or even Luis Jimenez - to name a few - were thus inspired by the Oise valley.

The Impressionism Month exhibitions will be the occasion for a first meeting with these talented artists.

"We want to talk about all these painters through very general public actions", explains Agnès Saulnier.

“The goal is also to subsequently attract residents to our local museums, where they can deepen their knowledge in a more scientific way.

"

Use of the theater

To reach a new audience, the three cities also had the idea of using the theater.

It was the company “Les trois coups d'oeuvre” which took up the challenge of approaching painting on stage.

The “impressionist figures” created by the troupe may surprise you by mixing several arts, music, poetry and even bodypainting.

"We start from a scientific basis the better to get rid of it and go towards the dream", explains Pierre Adam of the companion "The three strokes of the work", who in particular closely studied the correspondence of the painters mentioned.

“Above all, we try to convey this joy, this special atmosphere that reigned at the time.

It was a bustling time.

"
