A medical face mask has been sufficient for this since July 22nd.

Stricter mask rules from September 15th
The Austrian federal government has presented a 3-step plan for autumn due to the increasing number of corona cases.

Level 1 takes effect from 200 occupied intensive care beds and should therefore come into effect as early as September 15.
An FFP2 mask will then be compulsory
wherever mouth and nose protection is currently provided
.
For unvaccinated people, however, the rules are even stricter: For them, the FFP2 mask requirement then applies to all retailers.
It is recommended for people who have been vaccinated.
