Unterallgäu - The unemployment rate in the Allgäu rose slightly in August. 2.7 percent of the (potential) employees in the Kempten-Memmingen employment agency were recently out of work. 1,833 citizens, 0.1 percent more than in the previous month, were also registered as unemployed in the Unterallgäu district - and yet they represent the lowest rate within the agency district. The Employment Agency gives you hope because there are many vacancies to be filled.

"Despite the slightly increased unemployment rate - as it is typical of the season in August - the economy in the Allgäu is still on the upswing", Horst Holas, deputy head of the Kempten-Memmingen employment agency, is certain. “The companies reported more vacancies to us in August than in the pre-crisis August 2019 and are urgently looking for workers. And there were 1,900 vacant training positions on the training market for the start on September 1, ”says Holas.

Most of the

vacant apprenticeships

were in the areas of sales, hotels and restaurants, warehousing, but also in various craft areas such as motor vehicles, heating and construction in general. Doctors' practices also still have training places to offer. According to the employment agency, there are also a large number of individual training positions in often less well-known areas: for example, milk technologists, plasterers, opticians or even e-commerce merchants. To get more information here, the employment agency recommends making an appointment with the career counseling service at Berufsberatung-Allgaeu@arbeitsagentur.de. Apprenticeships can also be started after September 1st - in exceptional cases until December.

The

unemployment rate in the entire district of the Kempten-Memmingen agency rose

slightly by 0.1 point to 2.7 percent in August compared to July.

This means that at the end of August 175 more people were registered as unemployed than in July.

According to the employment agency, the usual seasonal increase is related to the end of many apprenticeships, schools and courses in summer.

This is evidenced by the age structure of the newly registered unemployed: While 140 fewer people were registered as unemployed among those over 50 than in July, there was an increase of 286 among those under 25.

Unemployment figures in the Allgäu in comparison:

District of Lindau: 2.6 (percent)

District of Unterallgäu: 2.2

District of Oberallgäu: 2.3

Ostallgäu district: 2.6

City of Kaufbeuren: 4.1

City of Memmingen: 3.4

City of Kempten: 3.6

Agency district total: 2.7

Fewer newly unemployed than usual in summer

If one compares the increase in the number of unemployed in the current month with that of pre-Corona-August 2019, it can be seen that the usual increase in August this year is significantly lower: In August 2019 the number of unemployed rose by 9 compared to July 2019, 4 percent.

Fortunately, there has been a decline in unemployment among the

long-term unemployed Allgäuers

: compared to July, unemployment here fell by 2.4 percent and thus 69 people.

This proves the good economic situation in the Allgäu: "Even people with disabilities have opportunities to find employment", says the press release of the employment agency.

The sustained

economic upswing in the Bavarian Allgäu

can be seen

most clearly

in the further

increase in the number of job

vacancies in August: With 6,829 registered jobs, there are 385 or 6.0 percent more jobs in August than in July.

This not only exceeds the number of positions in the same month of the previous year by 625 positions (that is 60.3 percent), but even that of the pre-crisis year: in August 2019, with 6,728 vacant positions, 101 fewer positions were vacant.

Where people are wanted

We are looking for

employees across a broad spectrum

. The hotel and catering industry with food preparation with around 1,000 vacancies, trade and sales in all industries with around 580 positions, warehouse management with around 450 positions and metalworking and mechanical engineering / operating technology with around 340 and 300 positions stand out due to a particularly high demand for workers . At the moment, in many cases, Corona is no longer the most pressing problem for companies, but the search for workers, according to the employment agency.

In the

district of Unterallgäu

, 1,833 citizens were registered as unemployed in August - 45 more than in July.

The unemployment rate rose by 0.1 point to 2.2 percent.

The companies reported 411 new jobs to the employment agency, increasing the number of jobs to 1,541 vacancies - 84.3 percent more than in the same month last year.

A focus of the vacant jobs is to be found in the areas of metal processing, industrial and machine technology and logistics.

There are still 349 places to be filled on the training market, compared to 73 young people registered as looking for training.
