Apparently they could only stagger back to the editorial office with the help of their colleagues, they were tortured for hours.

Two journalists from the Afghan daily Etilatrus show the traces of the beatings on their bodies and tell how Taliban fighters forced them to join the women's protests near Kabul last Wednesday, tortured them with whips and cables and then locked them up.

Taqi Daryabi, journalist “Etilatrus”:

“Seven or eight people beat us as hard as they could for about ten minutes. They raised sticks and hit us with all their might. When they saw us passed out, they locked us in a cell with a few others. "

Neamat Naghdi, journalist “Etilatrus”:

“No matter how often I tried to explain to them that I am a reporter and that I would not incite violence, they did not listen to me.

They even made fun of me.

›Are you a reporter?

You show these protests and spread them? 'I just screamed.

All of the Taliban members who beat me were my age or younger, only 18 or 17 years old.

They were very young and had come to hit me. "

A UN spokeswoman reported that journalists in Afghanistan were increasingly exposed to intimidation and violence.

The independence of journalism, which had developed over the past twenty years, is now threatened.

Taqi Daryabi, journalist “Etilatrus”:

“If you treat journalists like that, there may be no more journalism in Afghanistan in a few months. He will be destroyed. We demand that the Taliban work for the safety and well-being of journalists. "
