Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defense of the USA *, has warned of a strengthening of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Observe what is happening "and whether or not Al-Qaeda has the ability to regenerate itself in Afghanistan," said Austin on Thursday (09.09.2021) in Kuwait.

This is reported by the AP news agency.

Lloyd also emphasized, 'We have informed the Taliban that we expect them not to let this happen.' The Taliban had given Al Qaeda shelter in Afghanistan during their rule between 1996 and 2001.

After the Taliban refused to hand over al-Qaeda leaders to the US after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the US invaded the country, overthrowing the Taliban.

Kabul - The incumbent Afghan UN ambassador called on the UN on Thursday (September 9th, 2021) to tighten sanctions against the Taliban. Ghulam Isacsai accused the Taliban of having committed "atrocities on a large scale" in the Punjir Valley *. Isacsai, who was part of the cabinet of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, remains the Afghan representative at the UN.

At a meeting of the UN Security Council, Isacsai called for the Taliban government in Kabul not to be recognized and for the existing sanctions to be tightened.

He said the recent demonstrations in Kabul are a "strong message" that the Afghan people do not accept the "totalitarian system" that is being "imposed" on them by the Taliban.

The Islamists banned protests on Wednesday (September 8th, 2021) after individual demonstrations against the new rulers in several cities in the preceding days.
