Fire and heavy rain kept the Hundham fire brigade in suspense in 2020.

At the general meeting, the troops have now called for the flood protection to be implemented quickly.

Hundham

- The new year of operation in 2020 was not yet old, as the Hundham fire brigade was challenged several times. On January 16, a barn in the forest in Deisenried was on fire. The Hundham fire fighters tapped a pond in order to pump the required extinguishing water into the hoses. Because of the impassable terrain, a comrade also injured his foot. The fire in Deisenried again took less than 24 hours - this time a garage. With combined forces, the fire brigade managed to prevent it from spreading to the house.

Fortunately, the year of operation did not go on as spectacularly as that.

Nevertheless, the Hundhamer were called to a total of 34 missions in 2020, reported commander Michael Floßmann at the 144th Annual General Meeting in the Kirchstiegl inn in Greisbach.

In addition to the aforementioned fires (including a roof fire in Schnellsried and two Daxenfires were among them) the weather also caused turbulence several times.

In February a truck came off the road near Wörnsmühl due to heavy snowfall, and a fallen tree blocked the road near Graben.

Heavy rain floods Hundham

"Land under" was the name of the game on August 4th, when persistent heavy rain fell everywhere in the cellar defense area and flooded streets.

“Thanks to previous events, we knew straight away where the bottlenecks were and were able to prevent a backwater in the Oberdorf with our two portable pumps,” explained Floßmann.

The THW supported with sandbags.

A real lake had formed because of the overloaded drainage of the main street in the area of the old town hall in no time at all.

Here the commandant asked the community not to "lose sight of the well-known problem".

Half an hour of heavy rain is currently enough to flood the state road.

According to Floßmann, 20 flood workers were on duty that day.

The citizens thanked them for their efforts with warm meals.

Exercises despite Corona

In order to be prepared in the future, the fire fighters completed eleven exercises despite corona-related restrictions. Club chairman Martin Stahl also reported 38 appointments, with social gatherings being severely restricted by the pandemic. This was also noticeable in the cash register, which showed a loss of 2339 euros due to the lost sources of income at the canceled summer festival and Advent market. And even at the general meeting itself, the speakers adhered to the “3K rule” introduced by secretary Michael Gartmaier: “short, concise and compact”.

But Commander Floßmann took time to say "Thank you".

On the one hand for the new protective suits that the community had procured for all 180 volunteer fire fighters (48 of them active in Hundham) for around 140,000 euros.

On the other hand, however, also with equipment manager Herbert Perr, who has made room for a successor after 40 years.

The honors of long-term members and the promotions were carried out by Vice-Commander Konrad Filz and Vice Chairman Max Bachmeier.
