The B17 construction site near Schongau is coming to an end.

Today, Friday, the barrier at Schongau Nord will be removed and traffic will be able to flow again after three and a half months.

But not without restriction, because the Altenstadt junction is still missing.

Schongau -

Since the beginning of the Whitsun holidays, the main traffic artery between Schongau and Peiting, the B17 and B472 between Hohenfurch and the Peiting West junction, has been renovated - and everything has apparently gone according to plan except for the past two weeks.

Nevertheless, it was a burden for the citizens: it was not blocked continuously and not always on both sides.

But many a car or truck driver moaned at the long queues that formed at the traffic lights as a result of the diversions in Schongau, for example.

The blockade will be dismantled today - and immediately rebuilt elsewhere

This phase should now be over. This Friday during the day, the blockage will be dismantled on the bypass shortly after the Hohenfurch exit, and traffic can flow again. With the exception of a few remaining work, this area of the major construction site has been completed. Alois Stapf, Head of Planning and Construction at the Weilheim State Building Authority, looks back with satisfaction on the roughly three and a half months of the major construction site. “Everything went according to plan,” said Stapf. The weather played along too. A weather-related delay has only occurred in the past two weeks, but it is enough if a company cannot work as planned - "that always upsets the schedule".For example, sealing work on a road bridge or lane marking work would require dry weather, the state building authority had already announced last week when the delay of a few more days was announced.

Despite the weather well on schedule

Before that, despite the heavy rain and the waiting for building material, they were lucky that the construction companies were always able to bring the weather-dependent asphalting dates into the free gaps.

The contractor is the construction company Strommer from Schongau, which, with the exception of the guardrails, has subcontracted all other work, but it was a good job with this one responsible contact person on site, confirms Stapf.

Not whisper-quiet: the citizens were not entirely satisfied after the renovation of the Lechtal bridge.

The workers estimate that the cordon on site will probably be dismantled on Friday afternoon.

In order to be set up again at another point, namely at the Altenstadt junction.

This area is completely closed for the three weeks between September 10th and probably October 1st, a diversion will be set up.

Outside of the traffic areas, work has been going on all the time, now the last area follows at the junction.

As you know, a new branch is being built on the north-east side of the road.

This is intended to defuse the large danger area for left-turners from the B17 and for those road users who turn onto the B17.

Serious accidents had occurred there several times in the past.

Last construction phase at the Altenstadt junction

The state building authority asks the affected road users and residents "for understanding of the work and the associated traffic disruption" for this last construction phase, according to a press release. Looking at the figures for the total of six construction phases, the Altenstadt junction and a total of eleven kilometers of road renovation, Alois Stapf has not yet been able to say anything. There is still no full account. However, he assumes that the budget of around 2.9 million euros can be adhered to.
