The 26-year-old is not quite ready for the Bundestag yet.

He's aiming for eight percent for the left.

The candidacy should give his party visibility.

Munich * - “I like exams, I like this adrenaline rush.” Julian Zieglmaier also feels this special tension when he is running for the Bundestag election.

Interviews with the media, appearances at panel discussions, organizing the election campaign - “I'm experiencing so many new things and getting to know a lot of people”.

The purpose of his candidacy in the constituency of Munich-East is only secondary to actually moving to Berlin in the fall.

"At the moment I don't feel the need to do this, I have to get my own life and my job in order first," says the student of politics and technology, who works as a student trainee at a well-known Munich technology company.

For a mandate in the German Bundestag you also need life experience.

Bundestag election 2021: The left in Munich "make visible and strengthen as an organization".

Zieglmaier has only been a party member since 2019.

He had looked at other parties beforehand and then decided: "Instead of complaining, I prefer to work on making things better." On the left, he is fascinated by the determination and the substantive debates.

Last year, the 26-year-old moved into the Berg am Laim district committee as a lone fighter.

Since then he has been amazed at "this level of powerlessness" in local politics.

With the candidacy for the Bundestag, Zieglmaier wants to "make his party visible and strengthen it as an organization".

Bundestag election: “Invest more in people” - Julian Zieglmaier, left-wing candidate Munich East

In his election campaign appearances * he is committed to the thesis of the left *: Put an end to the black zero. For him, financial policy is paramount. For issues such as migration and integration, affordable housing, the expansion of public transport and alternative mobility, social issues and education.

"If the municipalities had more money, they could invest so much more in people." That would solve many problems in a big city like Munich *.

It is also about the difficult question of how to maintain prosperity, but reorganize it in a climate-neutral and progressive way.

The state simply has to invest more here.

The result of the federal election is also a test for the next state election, said Julian Zieglmaier.

"If we get eight percent in Munich, that's a good way." (Carmen Ick-Dietl)
