Clear the ring!

From next Friday, September 17th, the Circus Feraro will be performing in Langenbach.

Germany's largest family circus has some sensations in its luggage.

The ponies and horses of the Feraro circus at the sports field in Langenbach can graze on a large area of pasture for the next few days. A week ago things looked different: the season in Neufahrn was extended because the meadow was under water. "Now we're hoping for a few nice days so that many people can come to our performances," explains circus director Hermann Schmidt-Feraro, who is the sixth generation to run the company. He and his ten children, a total of five families, together form Germany's largest family circus company. "Circus Feraro" has been touring the districts of Freising, Erding and the Hallertau for years; has already traveled all over Germany as well as Austria and Switzerland.

Nevertheless, the Corona period hit the family hard: Schmidt-Feraro's company was stuck in its winter quarters in Marzling-Hirschau for eight months, and the lockdown did not allow any performances.

The director had to take out a loan to pay off the running costs for pet food and insurance, groceries, MOT and gasoline costs.

He and his family could draw hope from "the many nice people" in the neighboring village.

“The pandemic has shown us that many people still have something for their counterparts.

We got donations of money as well as food and animal feed from the local people.

And most importantly: You gave us consolation, ”explains Schmidt-Feraro.

You have already built up a fan base in the performance venues;

many parents come by with their offspring because they once went to the circus as a child.

In order to show his deep gratitude, he would like to offer the visitors of the circus a very special program.

For two hours in Langenbach there are artists in and above the arena, knife throwers, snake dancers, clowning and animal shows.

Horses and ponies, llamas, goats, pigeons, dogs, pigs and ducks are used.

Animals in circus life: Peta criticizes Feraro

The circus was criticized for the four-legged artists in January by Peta.

Animal rights activists demanded that he and all other circus companies hand over all animals.

The keeping and feed costs - especially in pandemic times - are a thorn in their side.

For the ringmaster that's out of the question.

“We all love our animals.

If one of them has to go to the vet, we fear.

You have enough exercise during the season and a whole hall for yourself in the winter quarters.

For me, animals are an integral part of circus life.

You will always be cared for with love by all of us. ”Visitors can convince themselves of this before or after the performances with a detour to the animal show.

Extension of the seasons: Hope for the Christmas circus

After the detour in Langenbach, the Circus Feraro is far from over.

He travels on to Wolnzach, Mainburg, Abensberg and Geisenfeld.

There will also be a winter circus in Freising this year, if everything goes well.

This project did not work in Erding, the artists had to accept rejection twice.

Usually the family also performed in schools or at carnival and club celebrations.

The artists already demonstrated body tension during their performance in Neufahrn.

The sons of the Feraro family hovered high above the visitors.

The pandemic prevented that. “We are in contact with many circus companies.

Nobody knows what to do next.

The constant waiting for new hygiene requirements is unbearable, especially when the weather is nice in spring.

The whole family is already tingling to be able to perform again, ”explains the ringmaster.

There are also fears about the financial situation after this season: "We are currently looking for a sponsor so that our circus does not die out".
