Tartous-Sana
The elements of the fire brigade in Tartous governorate, in cooperation with the members of the Forestry Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, put out the fire that broke out in a land planted with olive trees in the village of Dower Al-Maloua in Mashta Al-Helou.
Colonel Samir Shamma, the commander of the fire brigade, said in an exclusive statement to SANA that the members of the fire brigade and the forestry department, in cooperation with the Civil Defense, put out 14 fires that broke out today in agricultural and forest lands in separate areas of the governorate, including two fires in the villages of Zwaitina and Ras al-Khashfa in Safita and three in the village of Beit al-Jabal and its vicinity. In addition to grass fires in the village of Matn al-Sahel and Ras al-Shughri neighborhood, south of Tartous, and a fire in one of the shops selling spare parts in the industrial area.
Shamma pointed out that these fires were completely extinguished, and that strong winds were a factor in their intensification and prolongation of the extinguishing period, stressing that the losses in them were limited to material.
In turn, Dr. Fadi Diop, head of the Forestry Department, indicated in a similar statement that the largest of these fires erupted in the Mashta Al-Helou area, with an area of about 15 dunums, pointing out that all these fires are subject to monitoring after extinguishing them to prevent their recurrence later.
