Sham Shui Po Police District Assistant District Commander (Criminal) Superintendent Lu Chi Ho explained the case that after the fire broke out in Block 13 of Pak Tin Village, the police deployed Sham Shui Po uniformed personnel and the Kowloon West Stormtrooper and the firefighter jointly evacuated 931 residents.

After investigation, criminal investigators from the Sham Shui Po Police District arrested a 39-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman in Block 22 of Shek Kip Mei Village on suspicion of arson at 9 am this morning.

The two are lovers and are currently being detained for investigation.

Lu Zhihao continued that the two arrested were suspected of arguing due to emotional problems before the incident, and then suspected that the ignition caused the fire.

The police checked a large number of closed-circuit televisions and found that the two arrested men and women had left the scene together after the fire broke out.

According to the information, the arrested woman lived in 13 fire units in Baitian Village, and the arrested man lived in 22 Shek Kip Mei Village.

The man often visits the woman's home, and it is not the first time that a dispute has occurred over a relationship issue.

During the police investigation, it was discovered that someone in the unit might have left cigarette butts. As to why a cigarette butt caused a tragedy, further investigation is still needed.

The fire caused 1 death and 12 injuries. The injured were 6 men and 6 women. They were sent to Caritas Medical, Princess Margaret Hospital and Eastern Youde Hospital for treatment. 8 people are still in hospital.

Lu Zhihao pointed out that the male deceased in the fire was living diagonally opposite the burning unit, that is, the burning unit turned to the third unit from the left.

Lu said that due to the fierce fire at the time and the heavy smoke, it was not ruled out that the smoke was blown into the home of the deceased man.

The police estimated that in order to avoid the smoke, the male victim climbed out of the shirt-sweeping position towards the street, and eventually fell to his death.

District Chief (Kowloon West) Yao Benen explained the details of the fire.

District Chief (Kowloon West) Mr. Yao Benen said that a fire broke out in Block 13 of Baitian Village. The fire department received a fire report at 2:21. The fire truck arrived at the scene 4 minutes later and put out the fire at 3:12.

The firefighter then used electronic detection equipment and fire investigating dogs to investigate the fire scene. No combustion aid was found, but two suspicious points were found.

Doubt 1: The fire found that the fire at the scene was fierce and had unusual spread; Doubt 2: The residents of the unit involved had a dispute before the fire, so the fire decided to submit the case to the police for investigation.

The police have invited experts from the government laboratory to inspect the scene and assist in the search for evidence.
