France has become the latest European country, and the most important tourist destination, to eliminate the United States from its list of safe trips, following the recommendations of the European Union in the wake of a spike in covid in the States. United.
France's government issued a decree Thursday that removed the United States and Israel from the "green" list of countries to "orange," effectively banning non-essential travel to France for unvaccinated visitors.
Under French rules, unvaccinated travelers from either country will still be able to enter as long as they have an essential reason for traveling.
However, they will need a negative COVID-19 test before traveling and must be quarantined for seven days upon arrival.

France's move follows restrictions imposed on American travelers in other European destinations.
Earlier this week, Spain changed its entry policy for arrivals from the US, requiring them to have a certificate proving double vaccination.

Meanwhile, Sweden has banned all arrivals from the United States regardless of vaccination status.

Many European travel destinations reopened their borders to Americans in the early summer in hopes of attracting much-needed tourism dollars to boost covid-hit economies.
With the delta variant spreading across the United States, some countries, including Germany, had already started restricting access to Americans before the European Union's recommendation.
Others, like Greece, insist that they will remain open regardless of the traveler's vaccination status.
