Munich - The baton is raised, pepper spray splashes into the crowd.

The demonstrations against the IAA Mobility * resulted in unsightly images on Friday.

The International Motor Show divides Munich *.

A mass protest started yesterday from the mobility turn camp on the Theresienwiese.

The aim of civil disobedience: to disrupt the course of the IAA *.

"The IAA is the symbol of German auto capitalism," says Liv, press spokeswoman for "... ums alles!".

At 9:30 a.m., the demonstrators gather in the camp.

It takes a while to get started, but suddenly the demo train starts moving.

The organizers estimate that more than a thousand people take part.

The train doesn't get far, however - the police are ready and won't let the demonstrators leave the Theresienwiese in the first place.

4,500 officers are on duty and a helicopter circled the city all day.

A confrontation ensues, and batons and pepper spray are used to hold back the activists.

A few still manage to get past the police.

But every time it's amazing how massively clubs and pepper spray are used against civil disobedience, ”says Liv.

After a long wait, an approved demo makes its way towards the city center. According to the police, it has around 350 participants. At the same time there are reports of further actions. The police in Erding (phone 08122/9680) are still looking for witnesses to the action.

The demo train finally arrives in Karlstrasse - two uninhabited houses that used to house refugees are occupied.

The motto: "The streets are ours, we will take back the city." Again, pepper spray and batons are used.

"The emergency services were harassed, which is why there were also coercive measures," says Andreas Franken, press spokesman for the Munich police *.

In keeping with the activists' motto, demonstrators set up a sit-in at the Mercedes stand in front of the Feldherrnhalle - the first during the IAA.

The climate protectors are determined - even after several hours of waiting and failed attempts, their motivation is unbroken.

"It's exhausting, but I know it's important," says Liv.

In her opinion, not a day should go by without a commitment to the climate.
