More than 12 billion Syrian pounds, the estimated cost of rehabilitating the electricity line linking Jordan with Lebanon through Syria

Damascus, SANA- The Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamil, stated that the estimated cost of rehabilitating the destroyed part of the electricity line

The Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamil, stated that the estimated cost of rehabilitating the destroyed part of the electricity line linking Jordan with Lebanon via Syria exceeds 12 billion Syrian pounds, with an implementation period ranging between two and four months.

In a statement to SANA’s delegate, Minister Al-Zamel indicated that the electricity line linking Jordan and Syria to Lebanon was partially sabotaged by terrorists at a distance of 87 km starting from the Jordanian-Syrian border to Deir Ali area, indicating that this distance is part of the main line that connects North of the Jordanian capital, Amman, in the Deir Ali area, south of Damascus, over a length of 144.5 km.

Al-Zamil pointed out that the damages included the destruction of about 80 towers at a cost of more than 6.9 billion pounds, the destruction, sabotage and theft of about 195 km of Al-Arasah, at a cost of more than 4.5 billion pounds, in addition to the need for about 10,000 dishes to repair the vandalism of the insulators at a cost of 620 million pounds, stressing the existence of Difficulty in securing the materials needed to rehabilitate the line due to the unjust siege imposed on Syria.

Al-Zamil indicated that the ministry monitors developments on the line and how to implement rehabilitation work by relying on the national cadres and expertise existing in the ministry's institutions, including engineers, technicians and workers.

The Lebanese side had asked Syria, during the recent Syrian-Lebanese talks session, for the possibility of Syria's assistance to Lebanon in passing Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity through Syrian territory. The Syrian side welcomed the request and Syria's readiness to meet that.
