The rush by default.
It was so predictable: a major malfunction in the system leads to shock and scrutiny, and to commissions of inquiry.
The failure is always systemic, almost never a single factor that led to the event.
The general rush is the default.
No approval was given, the structure was built incorrectly.
Someone is not feeling well and no replacement has been found.
Someone fell asleep, went to the bathroom, looked away from the screens.
Then comes the question of who should pay for the malfunction in his / her shift, and it will start with a recommendation to replace the SAG until the call for the prime minister's resignation.
It's so retro, too. The escape of six prisoners in the middle of the night, by digging a hole in the coordinate and a hole outside the prison. Who heard of night-vision equipment, modern means of surveillance, blue-and-white start-up technologies? ?
So what do you do other than give a speech on general reform in the prison service or clap in surprise? Guard the guards, and put the system on constant alert. We all remember that in the army there are no cleaners unless the order of the commander is maintained, and when the commander arrives - he always finds dirt. Therefore, reinforcing the factor that is supposed to surprise prisons at unexpected hours and adhere to rules, is the most urgent and effective thing, even if it is not cheap. This is the only way to fight the default of all security and safety systems.
Expand rather than reduce. The Law of Return, one of the most important in Israeli law, needs to be expanded (such as applying it to someone who defines himself as a Jew, and the state has no reason to suspect that this is a fraud or an intention to abuse his right to citizenship). The Supreme Court has recently taken an important step in ruling that a widow who is entitled to aliyah under this law, will be able to obtain citizenship even if she is not Jewish.
The decision immediately provoked the cry of the wall guards. These are very concerned that those who do not meet the religious criteria for Judaism will join the Jews of Israel. They want our camp to be pure and willing to give up new entrants and their children easily, and want to narrow the entrance to the Jewish people instead of enlarging it. This controversy within us is an essential issue for the future of the Jewish-democratic state, and even if the Knesset rejects the attempt to prevent naturalization of a Jewish grandson's spouse, we can not avoid a substantive discussion on whether we can afford to reject relatives seeking to join our camp.
The meaning of the words.
President Yitzhak Herzog's important visit to Jordan, and his meeting with King Abdullah II, join the welcome political campaign of current government officials to correct the severe setbacks created during the previous government, with our immediate neighbors, especially with Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.
Our interlocutors are well aware that Prime Minister Naftali Bennett does not have a peace agreement with the Palestinians.
In every such conversation, the Israeli statesmen express their personal opinions, but are quick to add that this is currently a political timeout, and steps to facilitate the lives of Palestinians.
What really matters, therefore, is the message conveyed to them by their Arab hosts.
And the message is clear: in political life it is impossible to declare a time-out.
If you are content with just managing the conflict, the conflict will fall on you and us at the least convenient and least expected moment.
Without a close political horizon, all substitutes will go up in smoke.
