Russia welcomed the formation of the new government in Lebanon, noting the importance of this step in overcoming the problems facing the country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, carried by Russia Today website, that Moscow “welcomes this important step in order to stabilize the political situation inside Lebanon and create the necessary conditions to get it out of its long economic and social crisis,” noting that the effective resumption of the executive authority’s institutions is one of the “most important factors required.” to achieve this goal.”
The statement reiterated Russia's firm and principled position in support of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the need to resolve all issues on the national agenda in this friendly country by the Lebanese themselves without any external interference.
The Lebanese presidency announced earlier today the formation of the new government headed by Najib Mikati.
