The Sperlich puppeteer family has been moving around the district in search of space for themselves and their companions since March 2020.

They are not welcome guests everywhere.

Now the stranded showmen reside on a meadow on Bischofsweg in Garmisch-Partenkirchen - but only until Sunday.

Then they have to go.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- The situation is not happy. It is “tolerated, compulsorily”. At least that's what the residents of Bischofsweg and Krottenkopfstraße write in a letter to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen town hall. On the meadow in front of their property, a group and their caravans have settled down and they are now well known in the district: the Sperlich family of puppeteers from Dillingen. She has had the right to stay on the private property since August 12th. This permit will expire on September 12th, i.e. next Sunday. Then the Swabians have to vacate the square and leave it as they found it. Where is it going? "We don't know," says Hubertus Sperling to the daily newspaper.Whether they stay in the district or return to their home in Dillingen - according to reports, the family owns a large piece of land there? “We don't know.” Sperlich cannot yet say when they will go back to their work as puppeteers.

The campsite is a thorn in the side of the residents. You long for Sunday. With the letter to the mayors Elisabeth Koch (CSU) and Claudia Zolk (CSB) they want to "remind you" of the topic. Both were already on site in August and had "massive concerns about hygiene as well as supply and disposal", says town hall spokeswoman Silvia Buyer-Schropp. There are no sanitary facilities for the eight people, six caravans, dogs and cats. “We have camping toilets with us,” insists Sperlich. According to him, they dispose of the garbage properly. Neighbors help them out for the missing connections for drinking water or electricity. With a self-made wooden construction, the power cable leads across the street. The water hose is in the middle of the path. The residents criticizethat "the safety of the passing traffic is significantly impaired". The municipality can't really do anything about the situation: The caravans are on private property.

Showman family is not unknown in the district: Already problems in Mittenwald and Krün

But the letter to the town hall also met with incomprehension.

"The mayors are irritated that precisely those residents who have now turned to the market with a complaint about the condition of the camp have initially given their families both electricity and water free of charge," said the spokeswoman.

Whether out of good-naturedness or ignorance - many neighbors are now stinking.

The family was not particularly well remembered in the Isar valley.

In Krün, Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger (CSU) even considered legal action when they refused to vacate a private area in the industrial park in April 2021.

Even then, according to Schwarzenberger, the family took care of their whereabouts far too late.

The Sperlichs are now looking for a new piece of land to stay on.

But the commune will not accommodate them.

"Due to the current state of affairs, the family will not be allocated any public space on the part of the market," said the spokeswoman.

The neighbors who are currently supplying the campsite with electricity, water and so on would, according to the letter, “stop the supply from September 13th”.

But Sperlich promises: "We will pack our things on the weekend." But where to go remains open.
