While locals, day trippers and holidaymakers storm the bars and beer gardens in the Tegernseer Tal, the lights are still out in the Tegernseer Hof in Gmund-Finsterwald. That fuels a lot of rumors.

While locals, day trippers and holidaymakers storm the bars and beer gardens in the Tegernseer Tal, the lights are still out in the Tegernseer Hof in Gmund-Finsterwald.

That fuels a lot of rumors.

Finsterwald

- It cannot be ignored: Several months of forced closure due to Corona have put the staff in the inns in many places on the run. Other jobs, for example in retail, appeared to some cooks, waiters and service staff as the best recipe for escaping loss of earnings due to a further uncertain corona situation.

The lack of staff is still an annoyance to landlords, but the situation seems to be easing in the face of full inns.

Not so in the Tegernseer Hof.

The old Bavarian tavern is still closed.

With the assurance that it would reinstate them after the lockdown ended, the family business laid off its employees at the beginning of the pandemic.

This game was repeated at the second lockdown, with the result that there was no staff for the actually possible opening in summer.

The gastronomy in the Tegernseer Hof remained closed - and is still today.

Many guests regret the discontinuation of the beer garden

Since then, rumors have been mingling with the regrets of the guests because of the loss of an actually "grubby" beer garden. It is said that Kristian Nicol Worbs, head of Aureus Immobilien und Anlagen GmbH, who acquired the property from Bräustüberl landlord Peter Hubert in 2016, does not want to open the door again, but actually wants to sell the property.

What's wrong with the rumors?

"The personnel debates are not put forward, it is really difficult, that is what other restaurateurs and hoteliers in the valley, with whom I spoke, say," said Worbs when asked.

"I then said to myself: Well, that's the way it is, and Corona is not over yet." There is certainly a lot going on in the valley at the moment, admits Worbs, "and the gastronomy that is open is apparently also working".

Then he points out that his hotel has opened with 18 rooms.

“It is well booked, almost always fully booked.” Overnight stays with breakfast can easily be managed by the family members.

Owner Worbs takes a stand on sales rumors

As far as the inn is concerned, he cannot yet foresee when it will open again.

And the rumors of sales?

“In the Tegernsee valley there is a huge demand for real estate, people just come and ask if they can buy.

Which is also logical and understandable because of the price development, ”says Worbs.

Yes, there have been various inquiries, "but I sent them all away again".

Prospective buyers sometimes knock at the town hall

He also knows that interested parties are now turning to the town hall to inquire whether the Tegernseer Hof is for sale, which Mayor Alfons Besel confirms.

"It is a traditional inn that has its permanent place in the community," said Besel, commenting on the event.

Which means that the municipality will stick to the tourist use.

Worbs, with whom the mayor is repeatedly in conversation, also makes it clear that the hotel will continue to run as before, "even if you can't win a large flower pot with 18 rooms".

As far as gastro is concerned, he is thinking and planning.

The size with 350 seats inside and 450 outside is just difficult - also because of the competition in town.

Planned hotel expansion: Owner wants to wait and see

What about the hotel plans that Worbs presented to the Gmund construction committee in November 2020?

There was talk of 23 other rooms.

“It's not a good time to commit to expansion plans,” says Worbs, referring to the upcoming federal election, Corona and constantly new editions.

“The plans are there, we will develop them further and wait for the next year.” However, if the right offer came, he would of course have talks.

Some of the big players at Tegernsee have apparently already declined in the first round.

Korbinian Kohler, who is constantly expanding his Bachmair Weissach empire, is one of them.

"We are currently not in purchase negotiations," he said carefully when asked.
