After an architectural competition, long planning and a few protests, the time had come on Thursday: construction work on the Münsingen community center had begun.

Münsing

- On Tuesday evening, a heavy crane with a special transport arrived on the property on Weipertshauser Strasse. Other vehicles are available, as are piles for the sheet piling. According to Mayor Michael Grasl, drawing in the walls will take about a month. He points out that during this work there could be vibrations in the neighborhood. Measuring points are set up to protect in particular the parish church and the rectory, but of course also the residents.

The municipality will then commission a master builder. The floor slab on which the shell will stand is to be laid this year. The municipality expects the completion of the approximately 21 million euros expensive town hall and underground car park by mid-2023. Kerstin Schreyer, Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport, intends to personally hand over a symbolic check with the funding amount in October, according to Münsing's treasurer Hubert Kühn has not yet been determined exactly.

Mayor Michael Grasl was relieved to see the start of construction when the spade or shovel was pierced.

The project had attracted concerned citizens and even the taxpayers' association because of the almost double increase in costs.

He didn't hear anything from either side, says Grasl.

But it doesn't bother him at all if the taxpayers' association continues to keep a watchful eye on Münsing.

When he looks at newly built town houses around Munich, he realizes that they all cost the same amount.

It would have been too short a thought to plan a building sewn on edge, he said.

“Culture and encounters need space.” Fortunately, the price of wood has now relaxed a little, so that further cost increases are not to be expected in this context.

The town hall chief admitted that the new community center “represents a feat of strength that Münsing will not see again anytime soon”.

Architect Bernhard Peck from the Munich office of Peck.Damm emphasized that they did not want to create anything unfamiliar to the lakeside community. His design is based on the elongated Einfirsthof, the Pallaufhof, which previously stood on the property. The new building will have a striking wooden trellis set in front of the facade, but its shape will blend in with the surroundings. Mayor Michael Grasl wished the workers an “accident-free construction site” before he invited those involved in the project and local councils to have a morning pint at the Altwirt.
