At the start of school, the Erdingen elementary school students are also tested for the corona virus using the known rapid tests.

The procedures for applying the lollipop test have yet to be worked out.

Erding

- suck for 30 seconds, then the lollipop test is done.

This is how it will work from the new school year for elementary school students.

"This will be a considerable relief for the children," says the Erdingen school authority chief Robert Leiter with conviction.

However, it will take a few more weeks.

The new system will not be fully implemented until October.

"The quick tests are still being used for a while," reports Leiter in an interview with the press.

The information available on this is still thin in the education authority.

The exact procedure how the pool tests are accepted, collected and brought to the laboratory in the district of Erding is currently being worked out.

“The routes are currently being checked,” says Leiter.

One thing is clear: With the PCR pool tests, it is first checked whether a corona test is positive in a group, for example a class.

If so, the laboratory can filter out the infected child from the saliva samples available.

The school principals then receive the result in the evening via an internet portal and can then inform the parents concerned.

Basically, the 3G rule applies: recovered, tested or vaccinated.

Comprehensive face-to-face teaching will result in more social interaction again, explains the school authority director.

“We hope that something normal will return to the schools this school year.” In secondary schools, the self-tests three times a week (see article below on the right).

Leiter thinks the new quarantine rules are good.

In the event of an infection among classmates, the whole class is not sent into quarantine, "but very specifically".

How many and which people, exactly, is decided by the health department when tracking contacts.

"If there are ventilation devices in the classroom, they can even be dispensed with entirely," says the school director.

After five days you can “free yourself” with a PCR test.

There are no figures on the number of ventilation devices in elementary and middle schools in the district, says Leiter.

In all of Upper Bavaria, however, 7,000 of the 26,000 classrooms are equipped.

"But there are also schools that have large ventilation systems, such as in Oberding."

Most of the teachers in elementary and middle schools have been vaccinated, reports Leiter.

"Without our asking, I would estimate that at 90 to 95 percent of the teachers," says the head of the education department.

“I myself am convinced that vaccination is the safest way out of the pandemic.

And fortunately, the popularity of the colleagues is extremely high. ”If an employee has not been vaccinated, he or she is obliged to test, analogous to the requirements for the pupils.

This is how 3G is implemented in schools.

There are still no specific regulations for school events, only the first day of school has already been regulated by a letter from the Ministry of Culture.

Here the group of participants is limited to the closest family circle.

"Unfortunately we also had Corona cases and even Long-Covid in the teaching staff," reports Leiter.

That doesn't make the deployment of staff any easier.

Among the 651 teachers at the elementary and middle schools in the district, 35 are already assigned to the mobile reserve, who stand in for long-term sick or pregnant colleagues.

Corona is a problem with the latter in particular.

"There is an immediate ban on entry," says Leiter.

The teachers are then initially still on duty, but would have to be deployed outside the school building.

“Every class is catered for,” explains head of staffing.

In the event of further illnesses in the teaching staff, “we try to recruit new staff”, whether with teachers from other types of school, on parental leave or as student teachers at the end of their training.

That has worked well so far.
